My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

It's hard to imagine why this truly beautiful (inside and out) Long-haired Dachshund/Maltese was in a high-kill shelter in Texas. You'll notice that even in her shelter photo...Emma is curious and brave. This very sweet girl has a never-ending spirit of love and joy.

A compassionate Farfel's rescuer saved Emma's life and nursed her body and spirit back to joy and well-being. It's now getting to the time when Emma is ready to be transported to her new life in Colorado. Although it will be terribly hard for Emma's Texas foster mom to say goodbye...she knows that she will have a great life. The following is a description of Emma by her foster mom:

--Emma is such a sweet pup just waiting to blossom. I've enjoyed watching her learn that the world can be a loving and positive place. Emma had a hard start - but now she's learning about treats, belly rubs and that she's a very valuable girl! She may very well be initially shy or frightened, but just give her a bit of time and you'll have a new best friend.

Emma loves the sunshine and playing outside...she has exactly the appropriate amount of energy for a 12 - 18 month old, 8 lb healthy pup. She would do well with a family who is home a lot to take walks, cuddle with and play together at the park - she would love that! After she's had exercise and stimulation, she's ready to chill on the couch. Emma loves to snuggle, be petted and has been said to not get overly grumpy about very much of anything. Her potentially gorgeous, scruffy hair appears to be non-shedding and will require care...a periodic grooming and great nutrition would be perfect to keep her coat as beautiful as it can be.

Emma appears to be fine with other dogs but appreciates those that are respectful of her smaller size. Emma has been great with my 14 and 15 year old daughters and me! I haven't seen her around smaller kids, so that's an unknown. She's excellent with my mom..who is not the biggest dog-lover but Emma has won her completely over.

Emma is a truly smart...and often very comical pup - true to her breed!! What a gem of a best friend for a family with older kids or retirees who wants to include a very cute and fun dog in their lives. Emma has the potential to be a truly exceptional and loyal companion. Farfel's is very excited to participate in finding this special girl her forever family.

Emma will be arriving on transport in Boulder on 9/2/16. If interested in this sweet girl who is full of love and personality, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730.
