My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Whenever a sweet and engaging Shih Tzu mix gets into an urgent situation, Farfel's rescuers like to help. We find that dogs of this breed mix are loving, smart and make great family companions. They fit so well into a household and often make great companions for all age groups.

Sometimes rescue dogs are initially a bit shy....but put them into a home with a loving family that provides frequent socialization, nurturing, love and belly rubs.. and they will shine. Dottie is one of these pups...she's a blank slate that's just waiting for the commitment of a great family. Her love will know no bounds as she becomes a best friend and the greatest lap dog ever.

Dottie is such a great age and size... at 18 - 24 months old (such a great age - young enough to be open to new and wonderful possibilities in her life yet old enough to have left her babyish behavior behind) and weighs approximately 12 - 15 lbs (perfect size to accompany her people anywhere a sweet and well-behaved pup is welcome).

Dottie is lucky enough to have inherited the superior intelligence of the Shih Tzu breed along with the curiosity of the fun-loving Terrier. She is so excited and attentive when her people teach her the wonders of her world. If Dottie is trained with a positive reinforcement trainer and given tons of love, socialization with both humans of all ages and other dogs, she will grow into a self-confident girl who will be a wonderful companion. Dottie has all the elements working in her favor since she's starting out with a great temperament, a love of life and a puppyish desire to please.

We'd like to place Dottie in a home with either active retirees or a younger family who loves spending lots of time with a fuzzy and devoted family member. Dottie would also enjoy the company of a fun and respectful canine...she would love the playtime and companionship. Dottie will shine for a family who is motivated to take her to group obedience classes and to bring out all the wonderful qualities and loyalty that live inside of this incredibly cute Shih Tzu mix.

Dottie will love the trails and paths of Colorado (she's the perfect size to enjoy long walks through the mountains). Window-shopping would also be great to fine-tune her urban skills and provide the socialization that is so important in the development of a dog's abilities. With feelings of security within the family, Dottie will learn the skills of being alone and knowing her family will aways return.

Dottie has a beautiful, non-shedding golden coat. She will require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep her gorgeous coat cottony-soft and matt-free.

We've requested that Dottie be spayed prior to her transport to Colorado. We're not optimistic that this will occur due to too many dogs and not enough vets in this very poor area of New Mexico. Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Dottie's spay and microchip if our Denver vet is used.

Dottie will be arriving on transport in Denver on Saturday 12/2/16. Applications are currently being accepted for this sweet and devoted best friend and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If interested, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730.
