Here's what the humans have to say about me:
There's nothing quite like puppy energy and silliness...and then they lie quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm baby breath. They're so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them in a high-kill shelter.
Ruby, at only 12 weeks old and 8 lbs (is estimated to be full grown at about 20 - 25 lbs - perfect size for hiking as well as lap time), was facing the end of her life before it ever began. Farfel's Kansas rescuers are compassionate and loving and couldn't turn their back on this puppy...they rescued Ruby just in time.
This sweet and engaging Dachshund/Lab mix is starting out with great energy...the excellent results of her temperament-testing ended with a transport ticket to Colorado and a new life. She's also incredibly beautiful...with the gorgeous chocolate/brown colors that have come out since she received a good, sudsy bath after her release from the shelter.
Ruby is appropriately playful and inquisitive for her young age. She's so smart and very engaging...so typical of a Lab/Doxy mix. She's also bright and so loving...clearly having no memory of her scary start. Since Ruby is just a baby, she's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show her the way.
Ruby has all the potential in the world to be an awesome companion - she will form firm bonds with her family (as well as other dogs and humans) and learn positive socialization skills through puppy socialization class followed by positive reinforcement group Obedience Classes. It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you in the world with appropriate behavior.
We're open to Ruby finding her forever home with a very active retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and enjoy a puppy. Ruby is great with children as well but we would prefer to place her in a home with dog-crazy older kids that can participate in a gentle yet consistent training regimen.
Ruby will be up to date on her vetting. We're hoping that she will be spayed when she arrives from Texas, however a very young puppy like Ruby is often deemed too young to fix. If this is the case, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Ruby to be spayed at our Denver vet to be in line with our commitment to be a part of the solution to pet overpopulation.
Ruby will be arriving on transport in Denver on Tuesday 4/4/17. If interested in this very sweet and loving best friend, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7711.
