Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Whenever a sweet and engaging Terrier mix gets into an urgent situation, Farfel's rescuers like to help. We find that dogs of this breed mix are loving, smart and make great family companions. They fit so well into a household and make great best friends for all age groups as well as other dogs.
Sometimes rescue dogs are initially a bit shy....but put them into a home with a loving family that provides frequent socialization, nurturing, love and belly rubs.. and they will shine. Scarlet is one of these pups...she's a blank slate that's just waiting for the commitment of a great family. Her love will know no bounds as she becomes a best friend and the greatest lap dog ever.
Scarlet is such a great age and size... at about 12 - 18 months old (such a perfect age - young enough to be open to new and wonderful possibilities in her life yet old enough to have left her babyish behavior behind) and weighs 15 lbs (perfect size to accompany her people anywhere a sweet and well-behaved pup is welcome).
Scarlet is lucky enough to have inherited the superior intelligence, curiosity and fun-loving nature of the Terrier breed. She is so excited and attentive when her people teach her the wonders of her world. If Scarlet is trained with a positive reinforcement trainer and given tons of love, socialization with both humans of all ages and other dogs, she will grow into a self-confident girl who will be a wonderful companion and lap dog extraordinaire. Scarlet has all the elements working in her favor since she's starting out with a great temperament, a love of life and a puppyish desire to please.
We'd like to place Scarlet in a home with either active retirees or a younger family who loves spending lots of time with a fuzzy and devoted family member. Scarlet would also enjoy the company of a fun and respectful canine...she would love the playtime and companionship. Scarlet will shine for a family who is motivated to take her to group obedience classes. They will help to bring out all the wonderful qualities and loyalty that live inside of this incredibly cute Terrier mix.
Scarlet will love the trails and paths of Colorado (she's the perfect size to enjoy long walks through the mountains). Window-shopping would also be great to fine-tune her urban skills and provide the socialization that is so important in the development of a dog's abilities. With feelings of security within the family, Scarlet will learn the skills of being alone and knowing her family will aways return.
Scarlet has a beautiful, non-shedding (or perhaps very lightly shedding) coat. It's hard to tell for certain until her sad shelter hair grows into a well-cared for coat. She will require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep her scruffy coat healthy and matt-free.
Scarlet won't be spayed when she arrives in Denver - while we request it, there just aren't enough vets to cover the needs of the vast number of homeless dogs in this part of Texas. Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Scarlet's spay and microchip after her arrival in Colorado if our Denver vet is used.
Scarlet will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Saturday 4/15/17. Applications are currently being accepted for this very loving and devoted best friend.. and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/.
