Arrival story: April was a stray who ended up at Detroit Animal Care and Control. She was extremely thin and malnourished, most likely as a result of having puppies. She wasn't gaining weight and wasn't doing very well at the shelter so Waggin Tails sprung her to get her to a healthy weight and help find her a forever home.
Approximate Age/Weight: 2 years, 42 lbs
Personality: Despite her rough start in life, April is a sweet-natured, friendly and affectionate girl. She loves to give kisses and be cuddled. She's a little shy at first when meeting new people but she warms up in no time with a few treats and letting her approach at her own pace. She's discovered what toys are and likes to trot around the house with one in her mouth. She gets along very well with other dogs and loves to romp and play with them. April has such a sweet, easy-going temperament. She likes to be with people but will also content herself with a bone or toy or a nice nap in the sun. She's just a gentle and sweet soul who's such an easy keeper. She's already crate trained and mostly house trained, knows 'sit' and 'come' and can catch a treat in the air like a pro. Being very eager to please,very treat motivated, and very smart, April will be easy to teach a variety of basic commands. Let's not forget to mention how super cute she is! April has very expressive ears and will perk them straight up like a shepherd when interested in something but usually lets them droop at half mast giving her more of a lab or hound look. She has a long, trim physique that goes into a full-on body wiggle when she's happy to see you. We just can't say enough about this little charmer who so deserves her second chance at a happy home.
Forever Home: April would most likely adjust to a variety of home environments due to her easy-going disposition. She has not yet been around children or cats. The only dislike April has expressed so far is that she does not like to get wet....so if you're looking for a water dog, miss April is not your girl. She would do well in a home with a canine companion but would also do well as an only dog soaking up all the love and attention. - No Invisible Fencing

ADOPTION INFO:
We do not have a facility; all of our dogs are fostered in private homes. We generally have two adoption events per month. To meet a dog in person, please see our event calendar on our website for the date and time of the next adoption event. Arrangements can be made to meet a dog outside of Saturday adoption events after an application is submitted and approved.
Our adoption process includes an application and in-home meet-n-greet with the dog.
-Adult Dog Adoption Fee - $225
-Small Breed Adoption Fee - $275
-Senior Dog Adoption Fee - $125
-Pup Adoption Fee - $250 plus $50 spay/neuter deposit refunded upon proof of surgery by 6 mos.
