Paralympia is our superhero.
She has a kind heart and a determined spirit, and has already survived some hardship in her life.
Paralympia was born on May 2nd, shortly after her mother arrived in her foster home.
Her mother Teela gave birth to three kittens, however Paralympia started life out a bit differently than her siblings.
When she was born, her foster mother saw that she had her umbilical cord wrapped tightly around her back legs.
She was rushed to the vet where they discovered that the cord had wrapped around her legs while she was still developing, and that they couldn’t save little back feet.
Both of her hind feet needed to be amputated just below the “knee.”
The vet felt confident that Paralympia could live a full, happy life after this amputation.
Most likely, she will never realize that she is different from her siblings or from other cats.
Paralympia has healed wonderfully, and has shown everyone that she is truly an inspiration.
She is learning to walk and play like her siblings, and we know that she will be just fine.
She is not quite as fast or agile as her siblings but she can get where she needs to go, and seems determined to do so.
She is learning what works for her and how she can get where she needs to go.
She has a calm demeanor, and a gorgeous face, and we think she will make a great companion.
Regarding Para's legs she really is more 3 legged.
One back leg is partially amputated and the other is missing the paw.
She is a very mobile little girl and is able to get up on furniture and her foster mom has no doubt she will be doing stairs in no time.
Paralympia is doing very well ~ the lack of her back feet is her only issue, and she's thriving and doing well
Apart from her physical disability, she is extremely health and there are no underlying health care issues, this was a structural problem that has been corrected.
