Facts about Sammy

  • Breed: Miniature Pinscher/Chihuahua Mix
  • Color: Brown/Chocolate - With Tan
  • Age: Adult
  • Size: Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less
  • Sex: Male
Our handsome boy, Sammy, needs a big-hearted adopter to care for his little heart. Our Vet noted a significant heart murmur in Sammy which prompted a complete cardiac workup. The upshot is that he has a heart flutter that is treated with minimal medication each month. Sammy's prognosis is great. Just four years old, he is in good shape and has overcome the malnutrition that plagued him when he arrived. He has had extensive blood work done, which will provide adopter with good baseline values. All the diagnostics are done, and the regimen is simple. He takes his medication easily.

Sammy is an debonair fellow who would charm any adopter. He recently joined us from an overcrowded Animal Control facility where he spent some time after he was found as a stray in a sketchy city neighborhood. Sammy was in rough shape when he was found, and it appeared that he had been on the move for some time. All efforts were made to find his owner, but nobody came to claim him.

Although Sammy received excellent behavior evaluations, he seemed to show signs of depression as he adjusted to shelter life. He was overwhelmed and overshadowed in the Shelter adoption program. In a short time, he caught the shelter kennel cough and was relegated to the euthanasia list. We are happy that our shelter contacts rerouted him to our Rescue.

Sammy is a striking, red Miniature Pinscher, who may have a skosh of Chihuahua in him. He has a proud stance and carriage that screams "King of the Toys," and yet has delicate features, and weighs only 7 pounds. His short flat coat is reddish brown, with tan and white markings.

We think that Sammy would most enjoy a quiet lifestyle with an adult single or couple, who love lap dog companionship. Sammy tends to steer clear of chaos, and would not be a good fit for a busy family bursting with kids. He is a moderate to low energy dog and likes to relax by the fire or nap and his person's lap during TV or Book time. He's relatively quiet for a Min Pin, and would be the perfect apartment dog. Sammy could easily join a multi-dog home with one or two other laid back dogs or cats, but would be overwhelmed by large, high energy dogs. He has a calm, gentle vibe, and could be a comforting companion to a senior dog who recently lost a beloved house mate.

Sammy has good house manners, and is house trained, crate trained and can easily be persuaded to use a wee wee pad in inclement weather. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home.

Sammy is in general good health, and his heart issue is diagnosed and treated. Adopters must pay attention to his nutrition and keep him at a lean body weight to ensure longevity. He is recently neutered, and has had extensive bloodwork done. He has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), He has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed, and microchipped. He has been on appropriate heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. About Eskies Online Multi-Breed Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Eskies Online is a 501(c)(3) Multibreed rescue group that serves unwanted American Eskimos and other dogs in need and finds qualified, permanent, adoptive homes for them. In the foster home environment, we are able to evaluate the dog's temperament and behavior patterns away from the stress of shelter life. Eskies Online is funded entirely through adoption fees, donations and the generosity our volunteers.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Adoption meetings are arranged by appointment with approved applicants.

Our Adoption Process...

When we receive your completed application we will check your references, including your veterinarian, and then call you to discuss your situation and requirements.. If you are approved for adoption, we can then discuss with you which of the dogs might fit best into your life. We will either arrange for you to visit the dog in its foster home, by appointment, or transport the dog to your home.

To help cover the veterinary expenses of our foster Eskies and to support our rescue effort, Eskies Online will charge you an adoption fee of $350.00. We do not sell dogs. We charge a flat fee--whether the Eskie is a puppy or an older dog; whether it came to us with minimal veterinary needs or requiring major medical care; whether the Eskie makes a short or a long stay in our foster system.
