My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our adorable little Macho is a blithering burst of spastic puppy energy! This charismatic youngster was just five months old when his owner gave up on him, having implemented no training strategies whatsoever. We suspect that he was a surprise Christmas gift to some unsuspecting and ungrateful family member! Macho joined us a few months ago from a town shelter, where he had become another rescue statistic.

Preparing for the first year of a puppy's life is a challenge for many people. Certainly the cute little cuddle bugs grow up into big, loud, noisy, stubborn dogs, and this eventuality seems to shock people into surrendering their dogs to the overcrowded shelter system. Our job is to intervene, begin the training process, and find puppy savvy Adopters. After a couple of months, Macho has settled down to a brisk pace, and knows all of his basic obedience commands. He is now eight months old, and a great candidate for additional training.

Macho appears to be predominantly Bull Terrier, mixed with a good deal of Foxhound. He looks like a modified Bull Terrier on stilts! He is a medium sized dog, weighing 35 pounds, and possibly will get up to 40 pounds as he fills out. He has the characteristic egg shaped noggin, with a narrow skull and slightly indented nasal bridge. His short coat is white with large patches of brindle and black. He is a minimal shedder and does not require extensive grooming. And those ears! Seriously, there might be some strain of bunny rabbit DNA at play, to explain those enormoust pink ears. Macho seems to have a Hound's tail in perpetual wag mode.

Macho would be the ideal fit for a high energy single or couple, who can provide a life full of action. He is a sensitive, emotional boy, who bonds strongly with his people, and needs folks willing to do the work involved an raising an older puppy. He is a strong pup, who may knock an unsuspecting toddler to the ground, but would revel in the raucous games of older kids. Macho loves other dogs, but must be matched with a same size and energy housemate. He would overwhelm the delicate sensibilities of a laid back senior dog, or pipsqueak Chihuahua.

Macho is an exhuberant little guy, who will be the dream dog for an active family, single or couple, with puppy rearing experience. He is a high energy boy who needs a good deal of exercise and mental stimulation to keep from making mischief. The best way to focus this ebullient puppy vibe is, first, through vigorous exercise, and, second, through structured obedience training. Macho has begun the AKC Good Citizen program, and is an outstanding student. He loves to please his handlers, and is both food and praise motivated, so positive reinforcement training techniques work beautifully with him. In the hands of motivated adopters, he has the potential to become the poster boy for model breed behavior.

Macho is loaded with charm, but nonetheless it makes sense to puppy proof the household. He is a guileless soul, who adores everyone he meets and will be a constant joy for his experienced bully breed Adopter. Macho has great house manners, although he's probably not suited to studio apartment living. He is housetrained, but adopters should have appropriate expectations for a recently neutered, male rescue pup, forgive and troubleshoot the occasional accident that may occur as he adjusts to a new routine. Macho is crate trained, so adopters will have that tool to use in his transition.

Macho is in excellent health, and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for Rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed.
