My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The Dachshund/Cairn mix is a perfect combo for those with who are searching for an extremely smart and loyal family dog. Of utmost importance...they're famous for their great temperaments and snuggly ways. Elvis is a great representative of his breeds..he's a very loving and extremely sweet guy who is very gentle with family members and other family pets.

Being a happy-go-lucky and energetic pup, Elvis requires a certain amount of exercise...therefore if a hike or a leisurely walk is the order of the day - count him in! Elvis would be so filled with joy to hike the trails and over the streams in the Colorado mountains...and then crash on the couch (or a loving lap) snuggling close to his favorite humans and canines.

Elvis is an absolutely adorable and engaging puppy who favors the scruffy coat and fun, silly personality of the Cairn while taking on the very engaging qualities that make Dachshunds one of the most popular breeds available today.

Elvis appears to be a non-shedding or very lightly shedding pup (although it's difficult to tell for certain until his sad shelter coat grows out). He will therefore require a commitment to periodic baths/brushing and great nutrition to keep his coat healthy, so shiny and matt-free. As Elvis loses the old hair of his shelter days, his coat will grow in with that wonderful feel and look of a truly healthy coat and will be far less likely to shed.

Elvis's sweet nature is just waiting to be enjoyed and appreciated...he makes playmates everywhere he goes. Once he's comfortable, Elvis is a social and comical puppy.. and that means everyone he meets ultimately may become a friend. You know when a loved one approaches, Elvis's tail starts the greeting and it wiggles up through his entire body ending in a smile. And if your lap is available, up Elvis goes to cuddle and snuggle and let you know the level of his devotion.

Elvis is such a wonderful little being...we think he represents the best qualities of his breeds. At just about 5 - 6 months old (such a great age..old enough to be leaving puppyish ways behind and young enough to be a blank slate..absorbing new ideas and learning the skills to be a great adult dog that can accompany his family everywhere a sweet, socialized dog is welcome. Elvis currently weighs 12 lbs with an anticipated full-grown weight of about 16 - 18 lbs.

Elvis seems to be leaving behind the neglect and lack of love that made up his early life. He is becoming a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please - the happier his family is with his behavior, the more he shines with his accomplishments. We would like to see Elvis in a home that includes him in family time and activities...he's learning social skills and would thrive in a family that truly loves him and considers him a very important family member.

Elvis would be a wonderful companion for retirees who have the time and desire to be best friends with a truly adorable puppy. They could teach him about the world..and he would be the most bonded guy around. Elvis would also do well with a younger family who would want to include a sweet fuzzy guy in their activities. We feel that Elvis is too sensitive to be left alone while his family works full-time outside the home. He would thrive on more time together. Elvis doesn't require another dog to be happy...but does enjoy his canine relationships with kind and gentle dogs.

Elvis will be arriving in Denver unfixed due to too many dogs and not enough vets in this very poor area of New Mexico. Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Elvis's neuter and microchip if our Denver vet is used.

Elvis will be arriving on transport in Denver on Saturday 7/29/17. If interested in this very sweet guy who is full of love and personality, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730.
