My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Stunning Sasha just knocks our socks off. Just three years old, this beautiful, Black and Tan German Shepherd was cast off by owners who had let her have a couple of happenstance litters, and then cast her aside in favor of a new puppy. And so, they picked the worst possible option for her: the overcrowded city pound, where owner surrendered dogs are greenlighted for euthanasia. We jumped at the chance to help Sasha find better people and a forever home.

Sasha is right at the age when training is key, especially for a powerful, large breed dog. It was clear that her former owners had not done any obedience work with her, and even though she lived happily in a busy family structure, she had not been taught the basics of canine good citizenship. And, it was obvious that Sasha was not getting enough attention or exercise. Our first step in Sasha's program was regular leash walking, to create a calm, relaxed mind and body ready to accept obedience commands.

Sasha has developed beautifully, and now knows most of her basic commands. She is a dream to train, is very eager to please, and responds well to all positive reinforcement techniques. She is praise and treat motivated, so adopters will be able to continue our work easily. Sasha could easily go on to achieve her certification in Canine Good Citizenship, if adopters persevere.

Sasha would be a good fit for an active single or couple who enjoy the outdoors and can provide a fair amount of exercise. She could also join an active family with older children, but toddlers might not be the best fit for an active, powerful dog. She has blended in with a multi-dog pack, so she could join a multi-dog home, but she may not be a good fit for cats.

Sasha has good manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during Sasha's transition to a new home. She is in excellent health, and is at an ideal lean body weight of 60 pounds. She has been recently spayed, and has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), and canine flu. She has been boostered as needed. She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been dewormed, and microchipped.
