My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chico is a 1 year old male Beagle-Jack Russel Terrier mix with an adorable under bite. He is small - only 12 lbs.

Socialization
Sometimes a little shy at first with humans. When he was around a 10 year old and 13 year old, he immediately ran to them, wanted to play and jumped in their laps. He can be nervous about someone approaching his head, but will eventually relax.

Currently in a home with the cycle of life: fish, a cockatoo, a cat and 3 other dogs. He has ignored the fish and birds, and generally leaves the cat be. Sometimes he likes to run and bark at her but hasn't been silly enough to try to get too close although the cat keeps daring him to try.

Seems to love all other dogs. He has yet to meet a dog he doesn't like, and dogs like him as well. Even the neighbor's snooty schnauzer and another one's prissy pom decided he was pretty cool, and they played for hours. Currently is keeping the boxer in trouble, but he always manages to look innocent and point the paw at her.

General behavior
Well behaved, even when entering strange homes. He had no issues walking inside and quickly learned the game of the dogs he was visiting which consists of how many times they can get a human to open and close the door for them. Prefers to be outside, but if everyone is inside he will come in to join them. Not big on barking. He will let you know if something is going on, but is not excessive.

He prefers to go outside to the bathroom, but if left indoors too long (6 hours), he will have an accident.

May never aspire to join the Navy and see the world. When riding in a car, he prefers to share the contents of his stomach with the dogs.

He prefers to be hugged, loved and fed U.S. made treats. If a person is in range of him being able to curl up next to, he is likely to call dibs. At night he will sleep close and likes to crawl under the covers. If you leave him behind he will be sure to cry and remind you.

If you're looking to free up a bit of space in the house, he is more than happy to help with that. Have a bag of fireworks that need to be destroyed before they are tossed, to keep them out of some child's dangerous hands? No problem, he'll help for free. Need that paper in smaller pieces? He'll offer up his services before you even ask.

Training
Needs a bit more training as he has the listening skills of a teenager. He lives by the rule that doors are made to be ran out of, and streets are made to run down and explore while staying 5 steps ahead of the human. If you are looking for a way to meet the neighbors nothing quite says "hello" like crawling around their yard at midnight.

Health status
Good overall health and weight. However, does seem to be allergic to something found more north in the state as his eyes become very wet and weepy (Pine?). When returning to the desert, eyes clear up.

Like all Mikey's Chance dogs, this dog will come to you sterilized, up-to-date on shots, microchipped and treated for internal and external parasites. An adoption fee of $185 will help offset the cost of care.
