My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This sad, somewhat anxious, needy boy is looking for a foster or forever family that can offer him the reassurance of a calm environment and predictable routines while he learns to relax and trust. He would especially love a home with a couple of kids in it. Buddy is currently being fostered in eastern WA.

History
Buddy turned up abandoned in Benton City in early June. He tried to make himself at home with a family, but they couldn't take him in so they asked us to help him. He joined the pack at Siyabonga on 6/17/2013, and the better we get to know him, the more we like him.

What we know so far...
Friendly, but bonds most quickly with children. The family he tried to adopt included an eight-year-old boy. From the outset, Buddy made it clear that he loved the boy best of all. He is a little tentative with adults, but wants to trust.

Protective guard dog. His rescuers said that once he decided to adopt them, he started chasing visiting dogs off the property. He would also bark at human visitors, although he was not actively aggressive.

Scared and defensive around strange dogs. At present Buddy is sharing his foster home with around 15 other dogs. He is timid and uncomfortable when they first approach him, and will lift his lip before backing away. Once he knows they won't hurt him he relaxes. We haven't yet seen him play with the other dogs.

Probably an indoor dog as he's made it clear that's where he wants to be. He does not appear to mark indoors.

Can go over or through fences. His rescuers told us he would go over their 5-ft fence. We have seen him thinking about climbing the farm gate when put in an enclosed area to exercise, but we think a secure 6-ft fence would probably hold him. He will also work hard to push through a gap in a fence. He does not appear to want to wander, and would likely go over fences only if left alone and separated from his people.

Good with cars. While Buddy was with his rescuers he was in an unfenced yard. He showed no interest in chasing cars. He also travels well inside the car.

Will steal food. We're guessing this boy has been hungry. He was not at all shy about trying to snatch food off the table, and his other house manners probably also need work.

Health seems good. - just anxious and a little thin.
