Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Spirit is a handsome, friendly and very sweet, 80-pound, cat-friendly, gentle and loyal, at least ten-year-old, male border collie/collie-mix looking for a loving guardian. Spirit loves people and gets along great with the cats in his foster home. He’s a little pickier about dogs.
Spirit lost his home when his human was evicted from her apartment. He landed at CACC and his mom landed in a homeless shelter. His original human lived in a four-story walk-up, so she gave up on walking Spirit who has bad hips and ACL issues. She pee-pad trained him. His foster mom takes him on a couple walks a day which he loves. He tries to hold it for her walks, but she works 10-hour days, so he can’t hold it that long … another walk or two a day would make him happy and housebroken.
Spirit is playful and loves tennis balls and squeaky toys. He is looking for a retirement home without many stairs with adults and teens. We don’t know if he’s ever been around young children. His vet says Spirit has the blood-work of a much younger dog. He was never neutered and the vet didn’t want to do surgery on him at this stage of his life. He is up-to-date on vaccines, and heartworm-tested. He does take nutritional supplements for his joints and Rimadyl for pain. To meet and possibly adopt Spirit, please contact his foster mom Anne at almaclaren@sbcglobal.net or 773-576-5085. His adoption fee of $100 benefits rescued pets. He is being fostered in Chicago’s Portage Park neighborhood.
