PAWS of Greene County's adoption process
1.
Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
Find pets online or in person. We do encourage meet and greets with our pets to see how they fit into your lifestyle.
2.
Submit Application
We also require a vet reference if you have a current one, and 2 personal references, with names and phone numbers to call.
3.
Approve Application
If references check out, you will be approved for adoption.
4.
Take the Pet Home
We have a 2-week trial visit for dogs. We hold your paperwork/adoption fee and you take the dog up to 2 weeks to get to know each other.
5.
Sign Adoption Contract
At any point during the trial visit time, we will final the adoption only after you let us know that "he or she is ours"!

Adoption fees for animals at the shelter are $75 for a cat and start at $150 for a dog. This fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, rabies and distemper shots, worming, flea preventative, heartworm testing for dogs and Feline Leukemia/FIV testing for cats. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.
So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
