ALIVE Rescue's Adoption Process

In order to qualify for ALIVE’s program all of the following steps must be met:

You must be at least 24 years of age and be able to provide ALIVE with proof of age.

Any current pets must be up to date on vaccinations, and be spayed/neutered. Exceptions to this will only be considered if proof of a medical explanation is provided.

If you currently rent, you must provide a landlord’s phone number and a copy of your executed lease.

All members of the family living in the home where the animal will be placed must be interviewed.

Applicant must live within 50 miles of Chicago if interested in adopting and within 10 miles of Chicago if interested in fostering.

Allow an ALIVE representative into your home for a visit to insure that your home is safe for the potential new dog or cat.

Be able and willing to spend the time and money necessary to provide training, medical treatment and proper care for a pet.

Current requested donations to adopt are: $275 for dogs over 4 months of age; $325 for dogs under 4 months of age; and $150 for cats.

If you are interested in adopting one of our bully breeds, an additional $75 deposit will be required at the time of adoption. You will be required to enroll and complete a training class with your new companion at one of our approved training facilities. Once ALIVE Rescue receives proof of the completed class, this $75 deposit will be refunded.

About ALIVE Rescue

ALIVE Rescue is a sustainable animal rescue group committed to protecting the lives and rights of animals. We believe that every animal has the right to a well-balanced, socialized and fulfilled life. We take on the responsibility to save, rehabilitate and place abandoned, abused and stray animals. Our rescue permanently houses and cares for the animals that cannot be placed into forever homes for the duration of their natural lives. We provide medical, behavioral and physical support for animals despite their age, health, and/or breed. At ALIVE Rescue, we promote sustainable living and care-giving by building awareness, appreciation and respect for all animals and the environment within our communities. We constantly work to educate the public on current animal issues, including the benefits of spaying/neutering pets.

Since our formation in 2008, ALIVE Rescue has rescued more than 225 animals in the Chicago area. In 2011, ALIVE Rescue acquired a commercial building to expand our capacity for rescue and rehabilitation and complement our existing foster home program. In early 2012 we completed all of the major renovations to our new animal adoption center in Chicago, The Little Barn. With the addition of The Little Barn, we anticipate tripling the number of animals we can rescue each year.
