Rescue FAQs

Speak! Rescue and Sanctuary is a 501(c)3 foster-based rescue who is passionate about helping all Aussies and border collies, including those born with vision and hearing impairments as a result of merle-to-merle breeding. Speak! is committed to raising awareness of the preventable impairments caused by this unnecessary breeding practice. Speak! also strives to help these special needs dogs live happy, healthy, and normal lives. “We see possibilities, not disabilities!”
Speak! St. Louis is a foster-based animal rescue committed to rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing special needs dogs and dogs in need. Most of the dogs we rescue have preventable disabilities due to merle to merle breeding and come from all of the U.S. Sadly 25% of puppies born with this genetic make up are predisposed to sight and/or hearing deficiencies. Our goal is educate the public to this practice in hopes to put an end to careless breeding; but more importantly we want to show the public that "special needs" aren't any less special than "normal" dogs. Speak! has successfully fostered, rehabilitated, and re-homed many animals both "normal" and with "special needs".

Additional adoption info

The first step in adoption will be to fill out an application. Once the application is approved, we will contact you. We may also request a home visit which will be done by one of our volunteers. Our goal is to not only find our pups a safe home but ensure it is a good match for the adopter and the pup.

Our adoption donation fee is $350.00. This includes the spay/neuter and the pup being current on vaccinations, heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchipped.
