My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET BONSAI!

This boisterous little guy is named Bonsai! While technically Bonsai is a "senior" dog by age, his personality is quite the opposite. Bonsai is around 10 years old and was surrendered to Philadelphia's animal control shelter because his previous family could not afford vet care. A City of Elderly Love foster family swooped in to save Bonsai's life and he's been rewarding them with hilarity ever since!

Bonsai weighs 9 lbs. and was blessed with the personality of a puppy. He loves sprinting through the house after a toy and then strutting around with that toy in his mouth, following his person around, going on car rides, and will even stick his head through the mini-blinds when he hears his person’s car pull up in the driveway! His most favorite thing might be going for walks, even short ones. He starts dancing around as soon as he sees his leash come out! He's known to find the strangest places to sleep and loves to keep his fosters guessing on what hilarious antics he'll get into next. That being said, Bonsai is not a troublemaker. He's a sweetheart with a fun-loving personality. He'll most definitely snuggle up in bed with you at night and bounce around in delight when you get home from work after a long day. He may bark once or twice when you leave in the morning, but then settles in and naps while you're away.

Since Bonsai is a small dog with a small bladder, he does still require some more frequent bathroom breaks, but does use a puppy pad if its placed down for him. He has come a long way with housebreaking since coming to the rescue and will continue to do well with a regular schedule. Bonsai isn't currently living with other dogs, but loves meeting new dogs on walks and will bounce around and play bow to try to get them to engage with him. He'd likely do well in a home with other friendly dogs! Bonsai has also met a cat or two and treats them as he does with new dogs which sometimes results in him getting a swat in the face which doesn't seem to phase him. If he does live with cats in his future home, he'd do best with an appropriate introduction so he doesn't annoy them too much right off the bat. While he loves meeting new people, Bonsai is a little nervous around small children as well as bicycles/runners who pass him on walks so we think he'd be most comfortable with older children who can interact appropriately with him.

Bonsai is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and has tested negative for heartworm and lymes disease. He also recently had a dental performed at our vet to address some painful no-good teeth which were extracted. He's feeling better than he has in a long time! Interested in meeting him?
