My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET BROWNIE!

This scruffy little guy is named Brownie! Brownie was surrendered to Philly's animal control shelter because his former family couldn't provide him with the veterinary care he needed. Though he was reported to be 16 years old when he was surrendered, the condition of his teeth, overall health and energy show that he is likely around 8-10 years old, as estimated by our vet. Now that he's gotten caught up on the medical care he needed, Brownie is looking to lay his roots in a retirement home!

Brownie is a medium energy boy who loves squeaky toys and a good game of fetch! In addition to his toys, Brownie LOVES to go on walks and is very good while on a leash. He even walks well on his leash alongside his canine foster brothers and sisters (walks in a 3 or 4 pack). Brownie is currently in foster care with multiple other dogs and has done well with them though we'd guess that he'd prefer a quieter home without so much action. Brownie is about 90% housebroken and seems to get better each day as he learns his new daily routine! Freddy is currently living in foster care with cats and while initially showed a lot of interest in them, has gotten more comfortable and is fine sharing his space with them. He'd do well with an adopter who will give him an appropriate slow-introduction to their pets.

Brownie likes to lounge and nap under his foster mom’s desk while she works. He’s also a big fan of bully sticks and other chew treats that keep him busy. His foster mom calls him a “velcro dog“ because he is happiest when he is with his people! Brownie can be tentative with new people and in new situations (such as at the vet). He can be grumbly and may give a warning snap if he's not completely comfortable with an interaction or how he's being handled. He took a couple weeks to fully settle into his foster home before his cautious behavior subsided and he'll likely need the same in his future home. Because we think he'd be happiest in a less busy home, he'd do best without super young kids though is currently in foster care with dog-savvy kids who he adores.

Brownie is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. He also recently had a tumor removed from his leg which was biopsied and showed to be low-grade soft tissue carcinoma which was fully excised so has a low chance of recurrence.
