My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Effie!
The gentle-hearted goofball who never lets go of her toys!

At 5 years old and 56 pounds, Effie is a Pitbull mix with the perfect mix of sweetness, silliness, and soulful charm. These days, it’s rare to spot her without a toy in her mouth—she proudly carries them around like prized possessions, adding a playful sparkle to her gentle nature.

Once a bit shy, Effie has really blossomed during her time with us. She`s been opening up quicker and showing off her affectionate, fun-loving side more and more—especially on her outings and meet-and-greets! That said, she may still need a little time to adjust to a new home and unfamiliar faces, so a patient adopter will help her continue to thrive.

Effie would do best in a calm home with kids aged 10–13 and could potentially live with another well-matched dog. With slow introductions and a little patience, she’s sure to form strong bonds with both humans and canine friends.

If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a heart of gold and a toy in tow, Effie might just be your perfect match.
Stop in or Call 330-487-0333 ext 803 to meet her—she’s ready to play her way into your heart!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All of our adoptable animals are up-to-date on all age appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, de-wormed, de-flea and microchipped before adoptions are finalized. All dogs over six months of age receive a temperament assessment by our Certified Professional Dog Trainer to ensure appropriate placement. Also, many animals in our care receive basic obedience training to improve manners and increase adoptability.

We are currently doing adoptions by appointment only. Please contact us by phone at (234) 212-9843 or email at adoptions@summithumane.org, and an adoption counselor will return your message. They will review our adoption process, answer any questions, and tell you more about the animals currently available for adoption at our shelter and in our foster program. If we have a match for you and your family, an appointment will be scheduled to meet the animal.

Additional questions can be directed to our adoption team at (234) 212-9843.

More about this shelter

Since 1968, the Humane Society of Summit County (HSSC) has been the trusted caretaker and advocate for Summit County’s victims of animal abuse, neglect, and abandonment and stray animals suffering from illness and injury. We employ two full-time Humane Officers who respond to emergency calls, investigate animal cruelty, and, as warranted, prosecute offenders. We protect and care for our community’s abused, discarded, and forgotten animals. We strive every day to rehabilitate our rescued animals, find them great homes, and provide them with bright futures.
