My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Athena is a gently, quiet kitty that enjoys attention from all: staff, volunteers, and visitors. She likes to be gently stroked and lightly brushed. She does not mind being picked up and held either. She is simply a beautiful, all-round nice kitty waiting for someone to offer her a secure home and love her forever!

Athena was caught in a car’s fan belt and incurred some serious tissue damage in her rear end. While it took time for the skin to heal and hair to grow back, now, you would never know she came to us in very serious condition.

Birth date March 2018

Athena is FIV positive.
Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) is primarily transmitted through bite wounds. This means that it can be possible to house a cat with FIV with other cats without the virus, as long as they get along and it's a stable household. At ARC, all of our cats are tested for FIV and those with the virus live in a special house dedicated just to them. Cats with FIV can have a normal lifespan and enjoy a healthy life.

More about this rescue

The Animal Refuge Center (ARC) of Fort Myers is a not for profit animal welfare society dedicated to stopping the escalating cost to impound, care for, kill and dispose of dogs and cats dying for no reason other than having been born. ARC is helping to cut the large numbers of homeless animals which eventually cuts the costs to taxpayers, which to date has reached over half a million dollars a year.

ARC is a non-euthanasia organization. Once we accept an animal for adoption, IT WILL NOT BE DESTROYED TO MAKE ROOM FOR ANOTHER. We are here to help the unwanted and neglected animals who now face certain death.
