My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Rio!

Rio is a smart, active dog who is now officially in our care. He is looking for a stable, structured home that can continue building on the foundation he already has.

Rio has prior training and knows sit, down, paw, other paw, and drop it. He enjoys interactive enrichment and participated well in a recent snuffle mat session, where he engaged appropriately and showed interest in play. He enjoys fetch and has a strong interest in toys; plush or soft toys may not be long-lasting for him.

He can be cautious in new environments and with unfamiliar people, but he does warm up with time and positive reinforcement. Rio is food motivated and responds well to high-value treats, including cheese. During play, no resource guarding was observed, though he does have a high toy drive that can appear intense at times.

Rio enjoys being outdoors. On leash, he may pull and attempt to dart, and will require continued leash training and secure handling.

Rio has not yet been formally dog tested. He is not suited for dog park environments. Slow, structured meet-and-greets with other dogs may be appropriate. Past history suggests challenges with a resident dog, so introductions should be done carefully.

Due to his toy drive, limited stability in his past, and cautious nature in new situations, Rio is recommended for a home with children ages 8 and older. Any children in the household should be present for meet-and-greets, with interactions observed. It is recommended that all household members participate in the adoption process.

Rio will benefit from a consistent environment, clear expectations, and continued training to support his adjustment and long-term success.
