My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you know a sweeter dog, let minnow!

Hey guys! My name is Minnow and I am a small fry in this big ocean. I am a five-year-old spayed female Hound mix weighing about 85 lbs. I was rescued from San Diego, Texas, and after my puppies found their own amazing homes, I knew it was time for this mama fishie to venture out on her own.

I have mastered house-training and potty-training.  I am fully crate-trained, too, and will happily go inside my crate when it’s bedtime and sleep through the night without a peep.  As far as leash-training goes, I am coming along swimmingly and am doing great at meeting other doggie friends while on my leash.  I’ve even learned to sit and stay after leash removal until given the “okay” command.  I’m not the anxious type, but I do get a little fearful if another pup barks at me.  I can easily be redirected, though, with lots of pets and treats.

I am a social and loving girl who enjoys being around people and connecting with them.  Even though I have a mellow energy level and love to relax, going for walks is my favorite thing.  Getting pets is a close second.  I also like playing with my toys and getting treats (I am quite the treat-motivated girl).  I’m also told that I’m intelligent and attentive and will give you plenty of licks in return for pets.  I do well with other doggies if given a proper introduction, and I haven’t spent much time around kitties but don’t seem to have a prey drive.  I don’t have an aggressive bone in my body and am great around kids!

I think I’d do well in most homes, as long as it’s one that follows a daily and predictable routine.  Doggie siblings (with a proper intro) would be great, but I’d also do just as well on my own.  Kiddos are A-OK, as well, but they’d have to be fine with the fact that, at my age, I like to relax more than I like to play.  Other than that, give me lots of love and we’ll be best friends in no time.

Do we sound like we’d be a great match? My adoption fee is $250 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
