My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The perfect companion!

Hi there! My name is Polly, and I’m a sweet, 6-year-old, 73-pound spayed Golden Retriever mix looking for my forever home!

Life has been a bit of an adventure for me—I spent my whole life living outside before coming here. But I’m learning to love indoor life, and guess what? I’m already fully potty-trained, as well as crate-trained.  I’m also great on a leash and can easily be redirected when my curiosity gets the best of me.

I’m an easy-going, low-energy type of gal.  At first, I can be a little shy, but once I get to know and trust you, I’m the sweetest girl ever.  I have so much love to give and just want to be loved in return.  In fact, I show love with my whole body and always have a big smile on my face throughout the day.

Some of my favorite things include treats, peanut butter, sunbathing, belly rubs, cuddles, going on short walks in the morning/evening, napping in my crate, and spending time with my favorite people. And I have a fun little quirk, too – carrying things around in my mouth!   I am also extremely food-motivated. Treats are the way to my heart, so if you have a bag of goodies with you, I’m all yours!

As far as my health needs go, I have a few things to be aware of.  First, I have osteoarthritis, and I’m currently taking Galliprant to help with pain and mobility (~$65 for a one month’s supply), along with Dasuquin Chews for Large Dogs to support joint health (~$45 for two month’s supply).  I also have hypothyroidism and am currently taking Levothyroxine to help me manage it (~$5 for a one month’s supply).

I’d love a calm and patient home – one without a lot of food traffic.  It takes me a bit to adjust to new faces, so I’d prefer to not have too many visitors coming in and out.  I’m independent and don’t have separation anxiety, so I’d be perfectly okay being on my own each day, either sleeping or playing with my enrichment toys.   I’m not dog- or cat-friendly, so I’d prefer to be your one and only. Kiddos, though, are A-OK – just as long as they are older and can respect my space.

If you’re looking for a loving, gentle, and loyal companion, I might just be the perfect match for you.  My adoption fee is $250 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip.  If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
