My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

A survivor with a ton of love to give!

Hi there! My name is Miss Mango, and I’m a spayed nine-year-old girl, weighing 62 pounds.    I’m not quite sure what breed I am, but I’m thought to have some Rhodesian Ridgeback in me.

I was rescued in June 2024 from the terrible living conditions of Ellos Son La Razon in Mexico.  My front right paw was missing at the time of rescue (likely amputated), but that hasn’t gotten me down one bit! I’m a half-glass-full kind of gal, and I love a nice, calm stroll through the neighborhood or a relaxing walk along the beach.

Despite what I’ve gone through, let’s be clear: I am one big love bug! I’m super affectionate and love to be with my family at all times.  I have an infectious happiness about me, and I’ve been told that that rubs off on anyone who has the pleasure of meeting me.  My other favorite activities include getting tasty treats, napping on the fluffiest blanket I can find, sunbathing in the grass, and being by your side at breweries, coffee shops, and restaurants.

I adore kids—especially when they give me pets (the more, the better!). I’m not quite sure how I feel about cats yet, though I don’t seem to have a strong prey drive. When it comes to other dogs, I can be a little selective. I tend to do better with smaller pups, and I’d definitely need a slow and gentle introduction to any new furry friends.

As for my manners, I’m fully potty-trained and great on a leash. My main challenge is some moderate separation anxiety—I just really, really love being with my people. But the good news is, I’ve been making great progress in foster care. I’m not a fan of crates, though, so I’d prefer a home without them.

My dream home would be a mellow place with lots of company to help me feel secure as I continue working on my separation anxiety. A doggy sibling could be great, too, as long as we get a proper introduction. And if there are kiddos around? Even better! I love being the center of attention and soaking up all the affection.

If you are someone who is looking for a companion who will brighten up your every day, I might just be your girl! My adoption fee is $200 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip.  If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/. Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
