My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Meet Lucy!  She was found as a malnourished and underweight stray and was taken to a local animal shelter.  Now in foster care, she has become healthy and beautiful.  She is thriving and living the comfortable life she deserves.

Lucy is a very sweet girl who loves getting attention and sitting or lying next to you so it can be more convenient for you to love on her.

About 7 years old, she is at her ideal weight around 73 pounds.  She has big brown eyes that always look like she could use a little more petting/attention.  She will lay next to you for hours to get the petting she wants. She loves to remind you with gentle paw nudges that she’s still there.

Lucy loves people and allows strangers to come up and pet her without any issue, sometimes lying right next to them. She would do well with any adults, even seniors, as she is a calm and low energy dog. She gets along great with kids, although we are not sure if she would do well in a home with children yet, simply because of the aggression she shows towards other dogs when food is around.

Lucy is house trained and is very good about waiting to do her business outside. She was deathly afraid of leashes when she was first rescued, but has come around and now does very well on her morning walks.

She barks sometimes outside, especially at night, and she is afraid of the dark, especially in new places, so having a night light or leaving a small light on for her through the night helps her a lot.  She mostly barks when she hears other dogs doing so, and she rarely barks inside.

Lucy can tolerate being in a crate and does great in the car, although she does need help getting into/out of cars beyond a certain height because of her joints.

She can get a little playful/goofy in the mornings, but for the most part she is a very calm and low energy lady.  She could even be a good apartment dog, although she struggles with stairs, so it may be best if it’s a first-floor apartment, unless you are comfortable carrying her up/down the stairs, as she doesn’t mind being held/carried to go places that she would otherwise have trouble with.

She gets along ok with her foster doggy brothers, although she does not like dogs she doesn’t know getting in her face, and will let them know with a nip.

She may do best as an only dog, because she does have significant food aggression towards other dogs. This includes food that she may think should be hers, such as food being cooked in the kitchen or food you are eating. She has never shown aggression towards people, and is very good about being patient when waiting to be fed, but she just does not like other dogs to be around when food is around.

SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Please go to our website www.SpinRescue.org and fill out an application for this great Great Pyrenees!
