My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sage was surrendered to rescue with her 2 sisters and 1 brother when she wasn't able to be placed by the breeder. Sage is alittle over a year old (was told she was born in July 2022). Sage is a very nice girl. She is initially a bit timid and unsure but she warms up pretty quickly. She is friendly but does have a high prey drive (as many malinois/shepherds do) so no cats, small dogs or other "prey" type animals. Sage was kept outside so she is not housebroken. She did well in the crate but we do not guarantee her to be fully crate trained either so please be prepared to provide her with some training. Sage was worked with on leash and she does very well on leash. Sage would do well with medium to large sized dogs as she did not seem phased by their presence. She would also do well with older children who can give her some space and time to adjust and feel comfortable and who can handle the energy of a malinois. For her safety, she will need supervision or a secure fence. Given her breed type, please plan on giving her plenty of mental and physical stimulation as breeds such as hers are working dogs and need to have something to do to keep from becoming bored, which can also lead to destructive behavior. Plenty of exercise or a "job" should do the trick and wear her out in the process as this breed can be very active. If you are a couch potato, a malinois may not be for you but if you are an active person or family who enjoys outside activities and challenging yourself, Sage may be the perfect fit.
Sage saw the vet on 10/11/23. She appears to be in fairly good health overall. We feel that she also could stand to gain a bit more weight as we don't like to see our dogs so skinny so she will be getting plenty of groceries! She tested positive for heartworms and is on Simparica Trio for monthly heartworm treatment/prevention/flea control. She will need to be kept on the Simparica (or similar treatment) monthly. This is considered the slow kill method and the most affordable, as you would give her this monthly as a preventative anyways so there is no additional treatment expense unless you opt to do the full immiticide treatment. We opt to treat heartworms using the slow kill method due to the affordability and the fact that we do (unfortunately) get many heartworm positive dogs come into rescue. She also did test positive for hookworms on her fecal. We treated her with Drontal for the hookworms.
If interested in giving Sage her forever home, please submit your interest and your adoption application via email or text ONLY to 352-215-3260 (phone calls will not be answered or returned from this number). Sage's adoption fee will be $300 to help cover the cost of her vetting and daily care while with us. We will only consider applicants who complete the adoption application and will determine whether the applicant would be a good fit for Sage based on the info provided in the application. If we feel that you will be a good match for her, we will set up a meet and greet appointment with you.
