My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Most beer enthusiasts know that a Porter is dark brown to black with notes of caramel and chocolate - that describes handsome puppy Porter's luxurious coat to a "T" 100%! This sweetheart is just 4 months old with a Pitbull Terrier momma and a Boxer poppa. He was the smallest of his litter and currently weighs just over 14lbs (it is hard to guess how big he will be fully grown, but our best guess is no more than 30-35lbs).

Porter is a spunky little dude who loves to play, play, play. He is also a world champion snuggler! Porter would be so happy to have furry canine siblings that like to romp and rough house (he ADORES his 70lb canine foster brother!). He is fine with kitties and kiddos as well.

If you are looking to add some Porter to your life (and who wouldn't?!), please email his adoption counselor Michelle at michelle.p@poainc.org and complete an adoption application found at www.poainc.org.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We do have a screening and application process. Protectors of Animals requires a veterinarian check before any adoption.

One of our experienced Placement Team members will meet with you and show you the cat, kitten or dog you are interested in, or will guide you towards cats, kittens or dogs that are appropriate for your home environment. We will discuss with you the background of the cat, kitten or dog and what special needs or requirements he or she may have. We will happily take the time to carefully answer any questions you have or discuss any concerns.

POA does not charge an adoption “fee.” It costs POA anywhere from $100 and $400, or more, per dog or cat or kitten to make them well and prepare them for adoption. We are an all-donation organization and we rely on adoption donations to help us continue our work. When you adopt a cat or dog, we will ask for a donation. Our adoption donation information can be found at our website at www.poainc.org.

More about this rescue

We are a NO-Kill rescue and shelter for cats and dogs.

POA was formed in 1975 to rescue abandoned, abused and stray cats and dogs. Today we are one of the oldest and most respected animal welfare organizations in the northeast. POA is here to stay! You will not find a more dedicated, experienced or thorough resource for improving the lives of Connecticut cats and dogs. We confine our focus to our home state because this is where our infrastructure and resources reside, as well as our leadership.
