Meet Newt!

Update 4/9/24 - We received this information from his current foster family:

Newt is a long, tall kitty that thinks he’s still a kitten.  He picks out certain toys that he claims are his and takes great pride playing with them.  He loves being with us and comes to sit across laps for pets and purrs.  He loves interactive play with Sunshine and us. He carries toys around the house and brings them to show everyone. Newt talks a lot to tell you what’s on his mind or tell a story.

Original Rescue Story:

Are you looking for a feline who gets along with dogs, cats, and kids?  If so, Newt is your guy!

Newt is a handsome young adult cat, who was rescued along with his mom Natalie and 2 other male siblings.  We estimate the 3 boys are just over a year old and Newt is full grown at 11-12 pounds.  He is currently living at Casa de ARWOB with his brothers and several other cats and dogs.

Newt is a total love bug and he will seek out human companionship because he loves to be petted.  He will stand on his hind legs and place his front paws on your lap, while having a short little meow chat session with you.  He will remind you that you have spent way too much time on that thing called a computer and that he would like you to pet and play with him instead.  LOL!  We think he would enjoy the company of children, as he doesn’t mind being lifted up or approached, but he has not yet lived with children.  He can get hyper when playing, so children would be exposed to occasional scratches like any other kitty who is exuberant while playing.

Newt can nap and chill for up to 20 hours a day and the rest of the day he likes walking around the house and checking out what’s going on outside through the window.  His feline hunting genes kick in when a feather wand comes out.  He can go from the biggest couch potato to the most agile hunter, who can jump really high in pursuit of that feather wand.  Newt and his 2 brothers are identical in that way.  They enjoy their toys, especially if you sprinkle catnip on the toys.  His ideal family would have tall cat trees for him to climb on and lots of entertainment in the form of kitty toys, so that he can stay happy, healthy, and fit.

Like any healthy young boy, if he smells or hears a rattle in his food bowl, he will dance and meow with excitement.  Sunrise and sunset is the perfect alarm clock for meal time.  Although Newt and his brothers love their meals, they are not going to meow at your door or wake you at all hours of the night to get fed.  They are well mannered in that respect.  Newt is also a very clean boy and uses his litter box like a champ.  He has never gone outside of the box, nor is he the type to kick litter around.

Newt’s ideal home will be one that has another feline friend OR a very cat friendly dog who enjoys playing with a cat friend.  Alternatively, you can also adopt one of his brothers (Neeko or Neo) so that he will have companionship.  If you are interested in this handsome dude, please fill out an online application at www.arwob.org right away.  Someone will contact you to schedule a phone call and if approved, we typically schedule meet and greets in the 92110 area.

More about this rescue

The A.R.W.O.B. group is based in San Diego, CA and operates mostly in Mexico as well as Southern California and will come to the aid of any animal in need which crosses our path. Our belief is to do what we can in order to “Make a difference in their lives.” From experience we have observed and feel the companion animals of Mexico are in the greatest need and accordingly we focus much of our efforts in Baja, Mexico. However, we certainly extend our help to our north of the border critters by accepting relinquished family pets, exiting both dogs and cats from the shelters of San Diego and of course by working in conjunction with other animal rescue groups in the community
