My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LOCATION: Fort Worth, Texas
DOB: 8/8/2021

Those eyes! I mean talk about baby blues! Simply stunning! Hunter is a handsome Great Dane mix with a deep love for people, a natural protective instinct, and a heart of gold, making him an incredible addition to any loving home. His affection for humans is just heartwarming. He adores spending time with his foster family, showering them with loyalty and a watchful eye to keep them safe.

On the practical side, Hunter is entirely potty trained. He has not needed to be crated when unsupervised. When he's on his best behavior, he's allowed to share the bed with his foster family and enjoys the warmth and comfort of being with his peeps. He's also proven to be kid-friendly and, over time, is showing his playful, silly side, as he emerges from his shell. Hunter's freedom within the home is expanding gradually. Short periods of free roaming have been tested, and he's proven himself to be an obedient and patient companion, often waiting by the door for his foster family to return. Longer trials are yet to come, but his progress is promising.

Among his current canine companions, Hunter has begun exhibiting a willingness to engage in more peaceful play. He's learning to redirect his energy and enthusiasm with continued reinforcement. He's eager to be part of the fun and is learning how. In the presence of smaller dogs, Hunter seems to keep his cool. He doesn't provoke confrontation. While he does enjoy the company of other dogs, he may need to refine his play style, a work in progress and YES, progress is being made. However, this doesn't mean he has to be an only dog, as he's demonstrating adaptability to connect with his canine pals. There are no signs of aggression when it comes to cats. Though he may occasionally give chase, he’s showing the ability to adjust and calm down with redirection.

As a reminder, Hunter's early life was undoubtedly challenging, but he's transitioning remarkably well into a loving home environment. Slow introductions are essential to allow him the time he needs to feel comfortable and secure, a process that will certainly strengthen the bonds he forms with his new family.

Hunter has so much untapped potential and is making huge strides daily! He is ready to be your faithful companion. He is ready to bring loyalty, protection, and a whole lot of love to a forever home where he can continue to blossom and thrive. Take a good long look into those mesmerizing blue eyes. If you are able to commit to providing the ongoing training, stability and security that he needs, and PROPER DECOMPRESSION, you might just gain the best friend you always wanted.

More about this rescue

To rescue Great Danes from neglect, abuse, and abandonment while providing medical care and individual rehabilitation through our experienced and loving foster home program until we are able to provide each rescued Dane with a qualified, caring, and permanent home that will ensure a good quality of life they deserve.

To assist owners that cannot afford spaying, neutering or heartworm treatment as funds allow while also educating owners on affordable, local spay/neuter clinics, spay/neuter benefits, vaccinations, backyard breeding, behavior, nutrition, and obedience. Additionally, we want to be a link point to other rescues and clubs. Raising awareness around rescues and the Great Dane breed is of great importance to us.

We have been rescuing Great Danes since 2011 and we take pride in the collective love, concern, and dedication we have given to the misunderstood and forgotten Danes. It is our mission to continue to be the voices of the less fortunate Danes and to provide them safety and their birthright to a quality of life filled with love and dignity. You can help us achieve our mission by donating funds, items from our wishlist, items of relevance, your time through volunteering, or by lending your home as a foster.
