My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Kata!

In February 2023, Kata entered Riverside Shelter as a stray. She was microchipped which is how we learned her name is Kata, but her former family never claimed her. So, we scooped her up to become a Frosted Face. Kata was adopted soon after, and sadly, she was recently returned due to her mom becoming ill and no longer able to care for her. Kata is about 11 years old and weighs 81 lbs. She is sweet, gentle, and does well with other dogs. Kata loves pets and hugs!

Kata enjoys going on our weekly Sunday hikes and earns rave reviews from volunteers for being a wonderful walking companion. She has good stamina and is able to hike three miles. Kata walks nicely alongside a Frosted friend. Kata also knows how to sit and takes treats gently. She is such a good girl!

Volunteers took Kata on a solo outing to give her extra attention and time away from FFF. Afterwards, they shared:

"We took this beautiful girl for a walk at Ramona Grasslands. She has great mobility and definitely acts younger than her years. She hopped right up into our car and was a calm quiet passenger. Kata was ready to walk when we arrived at the trail and kept a steady pace the whole time. She was happy to stop and meet people of all ages and was very sweet with the children we met. She wanted to make friends with dogs we passed, too. We really enjoyed spending time with Kata."

Kata then went on a two-week Frosted Fling, so we could learn what she is like in a home environment. She earned rave reviews for having wonderful manners, being gentle with her Fling Family's children, and an all-around delight! Her Fling Mom reports:

"Beautiful Kata! She has been a joy to have in our home. We love her so much and she so easily adapted to our routine and family. Someone at some point definitely spent a good deal of time training her because she is so well-behaved. She aims to please and just wants to be loved. She will even wait at the front door the entire time we are gone. She is such a good girl. Here are some things you should know about Kata:

*House trained
*Sleeps through the night (9+hours)
*Totally fine being left alone at home
*Sweet and gentle at home with kids
*Excellent walker on the leash but will pull you hard if she sees another dog or squirrel she wants to catch (can be redirected with treats)
*Loves to just be around her people but not super clingy
*Excellent guard dog: barks at possible threats but not at anything unnecessary and no excessive barking.
*Received rave reviews from the groomer on her behavior

Basically, Kata is PERFECT!"

Kata is back on-site and ready for her forever home. Come meet her this Saturday and Sunday at Open House from 10:00 to 1:00!
