My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Guero!

8 years old and blind, Guero was surrendered by his family to Harbor Shelter in Los Angeles which was at maximum capacity. Kennel workers saw how special Guero was and kept him in a shower stall to buy him some time until he could be adopted or rescued.

Their plan worked! On January 25th, Guero became a Frosted Face. We had a special baby blue collar waiting for him with "I am blind" on it, so volunteers knew to use caution when walking him on our trails. Guero weighs 53 lbs., a perfect mid-sized boy and is super sweet. He is cautious and reserved, and sadly, it seems as if he wasn't treated with kindess in the past. His timidness makes you want to do all you can to show him that he is safe and cherished."

Since Guero arrived, he has been on two Frosted Flings, and in both homes, he has earned praise for being great with young children, house-trained, gentle, quiet, and trustworthy when home alone. Guero knows his name and responds with a wagging tail every time it it said!

Guero recently returned from a monthlong second Fling, and as with his first Fling, Guero blossomed with all the love and extra care he received in the comforts of a home.

His Fling Mom shares:

"Guero is gentle with all humans and needs a quiet home. Something or someone has left Guero traumatized, and he seeks a patient adopter that will support him and help him with his fears. He may have been harshly punished in the past and cowers with loud voices or correction. It made me so happy to when Guero roll over for a belly rub for the first time after 4 weeks!

Guero is an early riser and is usually waiting for me in a full body waggle to walk him. He looks forward to his morning walks but is fearful when he hears gate doors, car doors, traffic, airplanes. He needs help navigating on walks, so he doesn't run into things.

Guero sleeps off and on throughout the day. He is house-trained and goes out every 6 hours. He loves to find a breezy spot in the yard to snooze, too. We have never heard him bark. He is most comfortable eating without anyone around him. He never tries to get food that's on the table or to dig in the trash.

Guero does not seek out attention or play with toys. He is good with other animals when he is up and awake but does not want them around him or his face once he is lying down or sleeping. Since Guero doesn't like to be startled when he is sleeping, I would recommend a home without young children.

Overall, Guero is a sweetheart that just wants someone to make him feel safe. In return, he will greet you with his entire body in a wag and quietly return to his bed. It has been such an experience watching Guero blossom over the past 4 weeks. Come meet this quiet gem!"

Seeing how Guero respond to the love and kindness he has always deserved but not received is so special! All he needs now is a forever home - might it be with you?

Come meet Guero at Open House this Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 1:00!
