My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Golden!

15-year-old Golden was surrendered by her owners to Long Beach Animal Care services due to "old age" following a welfare check request by a concerned citizen. When an Animal Control Officer arrived, Golden's owner opted to pay a 'pick up & disposal fee' and release custody to the shelter. How sad is that?!

We think Golden deserves MUCH better than being abandoned by her family after 15 years of loyalty, so we rescued her from the shelter on March 5th to become a Frosted Face. Golden weighs 41 lbs. and is very sweet and gentle. She is wonderful with people and other dogs alike. She passed her cat test with flying colors, remaining completely calm even when our "test" cat hissed at her!

Golden went on a two-week Frosted Fling, so we could learn what she is like in a home, while she enjoyed lots of love and pampering. Her Fling Mom reports:

"Golden is amazing with all people including children and just enjoys being a part of things and watching. You can hold her like a baby, and she doesn't mind. She may flinch a bit if you reach in for a pet but I think her sight is just a bit cloudy.

Golden has a very week back end and stiff front, so she doesn't walk more than 6 to 10 steps on her own, that I've seen, or stand for long. She grunts a lot to move herself around, but she does seem determined at times. She likes to be up and in the yard in the morning and prefers to have an activity around dinner time, such as a wagon ride. She really relaxes and takes it all in while riding in her wagon. The first time I think I saw her happy is when I took her for a ride at Kit Carson Park. Since then, from Cruise Night in Ramona to a winery meet up, Golden loves to get out and about!

Golden loves other dogs and I think she'd be fine with other animals as well. She lived harmoniously with my two dogs and went on many outings and to several Frosted Faces events with me where she met other dogs. She likes to give other dogs kisses and even the "reactive" ones seem to relax around her. I suspect her calm demeanor is relaxing for them. She had a puppy held up to meet her at an event and she really perked up and adorably booped it a few times.

Golden drinks a lot of water through the day, maybe because of her medication, and has to pee every 2 to 4 hours during the day. However, at night she will sleep from 7pm to 7am without having to go! She needs help getting to the potty areas before accidents occur, but she does have a pretty regular schedule. She will try to get to a mat or pad to go if she can't get outside.

Golden had it rough before she was rescued, but she is a trusting and warm soul. She will sit contently next to you in public for hours without fussing or stare into your eyes like you are the only person in the world. I love how gentle she is with other creatures. If you want to make a difference, but also add a theraputic companion to your home and you can accommodate short distance to potty areas, you should meet Golden!"
