My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Life with Akeela is triple the fun!

Hi, pals! My name is Akeela. I’m a 3-year-old, 60-pound, shepherd mix. After being hit by a car, I’m a tripod, but I don’t let that slow me down one bit! To be proactive, I need to watch my weight and take a joint supplement but otherwise, I’m just your regular happy-go-lucky gal. Although my start to life was a bit ruff, I hope I can find my pawfect life with you!

I’m very social with my furry friends and love doggos of all ages and sizes. I adore puppies and can match their energy. I like to ruff house and will play to my heart’s content! I currently live with cats and kids, and we also get along well. Due to my size and puppy energy, I’d probably be best with slightly older kiddos. I am a bit hesitant of strangers and prefer a proper introduction. Once we’ve met, I’ll be your best bud! I’m sweet, lovable, and loyal to my humans.

I’m a smart girl who quickly picked up on commands such as “sit” and “down.” I am house, bathroom, and crate trained. I do well on the leash but could use a little more training. I love fetching toys for you and think I’d thrive with more training and “jobs.” I don’t have any separation anxiety but I get oh-so happy when you come home! I’m an affectionate girlie who loves to love.

Since I’m such a sweetheart, I’d do well in a variety of furever homes. I’d be happiest with another four-legged (or three-legged!) friend I can play with. I’d love a yard or plenty of trips to the park/outdoor exercise. 1) A good listener, 2) a big heart, 3) and an active adventure buddy? Let’s meet to see if I’m the triple threat for you!

My adoption fee is $350 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
