My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Satisfy your sweet tooth with Tootsie!

Hi, friends! My name is Tootsie, and I’m the sweetest 3-year-old, 58-pound Shepherd Mix you’ll ever meet.  I was rescued from the Riverside Shelter, where I was pulled in the nick of time off the euthanasia list.  I had just had 11 puppies.  Since then, I’ve been spayed and have been living the good life with my foster family!

I’m told that I’m a loving and submissive girl, who is a total people pleaser. I love to play with my squeaky toys, chew on my Nylabone, and zoom around to get all my energy out.  Most of all, though, I love being connected to and hanging out with my family.  I have mild separation anxiety that I’m working through, and I can become timid in new situations.  However, give me some positive encouragement and treats, and I’ll warm up to my surroundings in no time!

As far as my training goes, I am already potty-trained and crate-trained.  My leash manners are a work in progress (as I tend to pull), but I have no doubt that I’ll master them in no time.  After all, I’m a smart girl and a quick learner.  I’m also learning to heel, as well as how to sit and shake.

Due to my gentle nature, I think I’d do great in a home with both kids and doggie siblings.  I’d also do well as the only child, though, but just as long as I was taken on enough walks each day and provided with enough stimulation.  Other than that, I’ll thrive with plenty of love and affection, as well as continued training.

My adoption fee is $350 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip.  If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
