Meet Sterling! He is a silly, sweet, sensitive soul.
Sterling is Poodle mix, about 5-6 years old, and weighs about 12 lbs. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. Sterling does have a severe cataract in his left eye. He has extremely limited vision in that eye, if any. He has an appointment in late April for a consultation in Yorktown, VA. Hopefully his situation is correctable, and he will regain full vision. Homes Fur Hounds will cover the cost of this, but his new family must commit to taking him to the appointments.
Sterling is still energetic and playful, but is also very chill. He doesn’t seem very interested in the kitties and is doing fine with other relaxed dogs of all sizes. He doesn’t love if another dog gets in his face with excitement. He got a little protective over a very high value toy in his foster home, so situations with resources should be monitored.
Sterling is very gentle and sweet with people. He is timid and shy at first, but he warms up. Loud noises and fast movements make him nervous, so a house with a lot of activity and noise may not be the best for him. Another small dog to play with and build his confidence would help him a lot.
Sterling is curious and loves to explore the backyard. So far, he has only barked at appropriate things and does not seem yappy. He is a good eater and sleeper. We are working on manners and housebreaking. He is a little nervous in the car, but does fine. He is pretty good a leash and harness. Sterling loves his little bed, but he really loves to get on the couch or bed to sleep. Right now, he has a little trouble getting down because of his vision impairment, so that should be monitored until he gets the hang of things.
Sterling will need regular grooming.
Overall, he is a cool little fella ready for a new loving home. If you are interested in him, please review our application guidelines first and fill out an application on our website. www.homesfurhounds.org. He is located in Williamsburg, Va.

If that is approved, we set up a meeting with the pet. We then perform a home check. If the person wants to adopt, we require a contract and our adoption fee is $300.00. Our dogs are all spayed/neutered, HW tested, up to date on shots and micro-chipped.

More about this rescue
Homes Fur Hounds Inc. was formed to help the overwhelming number of animals that are abandoned, surrendered to county agencies and simply unwanted. These animals are facing death due to no fault of their own other than not being convenient. Our mission is to help stop the unnecessary killing of animals. Thousands of animals are put to sleep (some more humanely than others) every day. We strive to educate the public on the importance of spaying, neutering, heartworm preventive and general health care. We also strive to help owners who are experiencing difficulties with their pet find solutions to their problems. By helping them find solutions we keep the animals out of the county pounds and from being abandoned. It is our policy to adopt out only healthy dogs and to do our best to know and understand what type of home the dog needs. We are always striving to find that “forever home” for the animals.
