My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BASIL - DOB 2/18/24
Here is Basil, a very unique mix!  Basil was born in foster care so we know all about him. His DNA is 52% Beagle, 30% Shiba Inu, and 16% Australian Cattle Dog with a smidgen of Border Collie and German Shepherd.  What does all that add up to?  Medium-sized, (Shibas, Cattle Dogs, and Borders medium, not large) floppy-eared, curly-tailed, spunky, smart puppies!  So far, Basil’s personality has been on the chill side, he is sweet and friendly. He loves the outdoors and playing. He sleeps through the night and he’s 90% potty trained (with a doggy door).
Basil appears to be black with brown markings and white chest and paws, but in some light, he seems to be a rich chocolate brown due to some subtle red highlights from his Shiba Inu dad. As I said, unique!  Crazy cute and crazy smart -  doesn't happen too often. Get your application in!
NOTE: The dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).
Please read our Standards for Adoption and the information about beagles and puppies before you submit an adoption application. Remember that owning a puppy is a full-time commitment and you must have the time to commit to a dog that will be with you for 12-17 years. Beagle puppies are cute - but they are very challenging. Puppies may eat your apartment (no refund of security deposit); people who are gone for more than 5 hours at a time will need to make dog walker, neighbor, or doggie daycare arrangements. We discourage the adoption of puppies to families with children under the age of six, since puppies will chew toys, shoes, blankets, hands, feet, and other important parts of your child's anatomy.

More about this rescue

Midwest Beagle Rescue, Education and Welfare, Inc is a 501(c)3 non profit, all-volunteer organization located in the Midwest, funded by donations and dedicated to rescuing beagles from high-kill shelters. Our foster homes provide loving temporary care until we are able to find them well matched, carefully screened forever homes. By working with local veterinarians, trainers, and boarding facilities we are able to give proper medical care to the beagles in our program. We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training, and good nutrition. We adopt beagles to families within Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, western Pennsylvania and Wisconsin and have also placed beagles into loving homes in Minnesota, Iowa, and Missouri.
