My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Athena was brought in by her previous owner on April 28, 2024.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Athena, a charming canine companion, is eagerly awaiting her future home. With a heart that seeks affection, Athena's love for people shines through in every interaction. She's an adventurer at heart, reveling in car rides and any outdoor activity with her people. Athena's adaptable nature extends to her previous ability to coexist with a cat and bearded dragon. She also has a positive history with other dogs (having friendly encounters on walks) and with well-mannered children. Her reputation as an escape artist calls for a secure yard, so make sure you have a tall fence or are prepared to walk her outside on a leash. Athena also has a foundation for crate training and is sure to be coachable as long as you offer high-value treats. Additionally, her possible allergies require a home that's willing to provide the care necessary to keep her comfortable. If you're ready to welcome Athena into your life, come meet her today with leash and collar in hand in case you fall in love!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
