When you gonna give me the time, My Sharona? Meet Sharona, who will gladly give you the time. She's a sweet mama who can be shy at first but very much warms up with kind humans! This gal is an adult only home preferred due to needing slow introductions to new humans. Sharona has had several good meets in the shelter with other dogs. She is looking for a home that can help build her confidence and show her all the love that she deserves.
Sweet Sharona was found as a stray on 8/2 and given a medical assessment. She was found to be around 4 years old, 35lbs, moderate staining on the teeth, hair loss, and very timid during the exam. Later, on 8/7, Sharona was diagnosed with a doggie cold and placed on antibiotics.
NOTES:
On 8/6 Per Staff: BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Sharona was very easy to leash! Came to the front with soft eyes, wagging and was very patient. No issues exiting or returning
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulled moderately
HANDLING:
In the room Sharona was very timid and shy. She had a lowered body and wide soft eyes. She needed a slow intro to new people in the room and would shy away if you moved too fast but with a gentle and slow approach she would come up to us and seek out pets and attention. She needs a gentle approach but is very sweet when she warms up.
PLAY:
No interest
TOYS:
Interest but did not take prolonged possession.
On 8/3/24 Per Volunteer: Sharona was pretty easy to leash and then was a little bit jumpy and hesitant to go through the welcome center where there were lots of people. She seems a little scared but warms up quick. Although she barks at dogs from her kennel- she is fine meeting them outside! She met a tiny dog and also a very large dog and for both she was polite. She did not try to initiate play, but she was tolerant and did sniffs on both ends. Outside in the dog run she wanted to explore and do her own thing but did take treats from me gently. She does cower a bit at overhand pets towards head but no concerns besides her future family should go slow with affection and earn her trust!
