My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Just like her namesake (Elphaba), Elphie has a tough exterior that others may judge her for, but she is a big softie at heart. Elphie has shown to be a sweet quiet girl who just wants company and pets. While she enjoys a full body scratch, she is a particular fan of her neck being rubbed. She is very quiet and will typically only make a low noise at you if she needs to go out with a very rare bark if you’re not paying attention. And if you can’t take her out right then, don’t worry! She’ll hold it! She is housebroken and hasn’t had a SINGLE accident in her foster mom’s house. And with these cold winter temps she won’t dilly dally around either. She will promptly do her business and wait at the door to go back in.

Elphie is very good with young kids and with cats (even when the cats aren’t nice to her). The kids like to play chase with her and she knows her boundaries when it comes to the littles. She does not knock into them and does not get mouthy. Elphie doesn’t have a ton of interest in toys and is content with a plushy toy that she can slowly tear apart. She is a HUGE fan of bully sticks and treats. She doesn’t seem to know any commands, but is eager to please. Elphie prefers a cuddler bed over a flat one, and isn't a fan of blankets. She will pull them right out of her bed. She won’t jump on your furniture and she won’t chew on your belongings. She is very tolerant of all body handling and let her foster mom give her a bath without any fight. She even let her foster mom put clothes on her.

Elphie will be an amazing family dog who just want a low energy friend. Please email Heather.acctfosters@gmail.com for more information or to inquire about adoption!

More about this shelter

The Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly) is the region’s largest animal care and control service provider. ACCT Philly is an independent, 501c3 nonprofit organization, contracted by the City of Philadelphia to provide animal control services. Our animal control officers provide service over 142.6 square miles to the city’s more than 1.5 million residents and ACCT Philly’s facility in North Philadelphia handles more than 17,000 of the city’s animals, from dogs and cats, to small animals, reptiles, birds and wildlife, annually.

In addition to animal control and sheltering, ACCT Philly is open 365 days a year for pet adoptions. ACCT Philly also supports a foster care program where community members provide temporary homes for sheltered animals and one of the (if not THE) most extensive rescue partnership program in the country where approved rescue partners accept ACCT Philly animals into their adoption programs. Under contract ACCT Philly’s Animal Control Officers provide animal control services and code enforcement. Other exciting ACCT Philly programs include a food pantry for low-income pet owners, a vibrant volunteer program, trap-neuter-return for community cats, a unique Pen Pal program to assist dogs at risk … and so much more!
