My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Starlight is a 5-year-old female Staffordshire Terrier mix whose name couldn’t be more fitting. She truly shines once she knows she’s safe. Adopted as a puppy and later found as a stray, Starlight understandably came back to APA! a bit unsure of the world. With patience, consistency, and lots of love from staff and volunteers, she has blossomed into a confident, affectionate, and wonderfully well-rounded dog.

This house-trained girl is a joy to have around. She has excellent leash manners, enjoys long walks, and loves taking her time to investigate every interesting scent in the yard. She’s playful without being overwhelming—fetch, toys, and even agility courses are right up her alley. She’s also great at entertaining herself when needed. Starlight is extremely smart and eager to work with her person. She already knows sit, down, place, wait/stay, and recall, and she makes learning new things look easy. She gets along with other dogs when introduced slowly and thoughtfully.

Starlight has a history of chronic ear infections and has an upcoming two-part ear canal removal surgery. She will need a committed foster for at least one month to get through both surgeries and the recovery period. Ideally, her foster would be able to take her about a week before surgery to help her settle in and ensure a smooth, stable transition through her medical care.

All medical care will be supported—what Starlight truly needs is consistency, patience, and a calm home where she can heal and continue building trust.

If you’re looking for a loving, loyal companion and can offer a steady foster home during her medical journey, Starlight will reward you with devotion, cuddles, and a heart that’s ready to shine just for you.
