My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

By your side through thick and thin!

Hi there! My name is Velvet, and I might just be the sweetest (and softest!) Lab Mix you’ll ever meet.  I’m 1.5 years old, weigh 57 pounds, and I’ve already been spayed—no special needs, just lots of love to give! I came from a shelter in Pasadena, and now I’m ready to start my next big adventure: finding my furever family!

I’m a super loyal and affectionate pup who just wants to be by your side. Whether it’s snuggling on the couch after a fun play session, taking long walks, or soaking up the sun in the backyard with my Kong toy, I’m happiest when I’m with my people. And I absolutely love car rides and exploring places like Home Depot—so many fun smells and new friends to meet! I get along well with other doggy pals, but I do best with slow introductions. No kitties for me, please, and I’d prefer a home with older kiddos (15+) who understand my playful energy.

When it comes to training, I’ve got potty training down and am making great progress with my crate training. I do get a little excited on the leash and tend to pull at first, but once we’re moving, I settle in just fine! I’m also a pro at catching treats from across the room.  I have only mild separation anxiety, but overall, I aim to please and just want to make you proud!

I’d thrive as either a solo pup or with a fun-loving doggie sibling who enjoys active playtime and won’t mind my enthusiasm. If you’re looking for a best friend who will shower you with love, loyalty, and lots of cuddles—I’m your girl!

My adoption fee is $350 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip.  If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
