My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Taquito is a quiet, food-loving sweetheart with a shy side. He’ll sometimes let you pet him, other times he’ll bolt like you just challenged him to a game of tag. But when it’s mealtime, he’s always front and center! He adores Churu treats, chasing springy toys, and watching the world from the catio.

His story began when his mother, a stray named Mama Kitty, brought her first litter to me. Then she stayed, had a second litter (including Taquito), a third, and finally, she disappeared—leaving behind all her kittens. Suddenly, I was caring for 10 cats, completely unprepared but determined to help. Eventually, I found homes for some, two ran off, and I kept three. Meanwhile, Taquito and Amaya had a litter of four, adding to the chaos! Of those, Amber stayed, completing their little family. Now, they live alongside the three cats I officially adopted from the 14.

Taquito isn’t an alpha—if there’s a kitty spat, he’s the one getting pinned down (poor guy). He’s also the family’s designated grooming client—Amaya and Amber make sure his fur is spotless. He has never been alone and wouldn’t do well as a single cat. Ideally, he’ll be adopted with Amber and Amaya, but if separated, he must go to a home with other friendly cats.
He needs a patient adopter who understands that trust takes time. He may not be a lap cat right away, but once he feels safe, he’ll show his sweet, gentle personality.

Could you be the one to give Taquito the home he deserves? Check out Amaya (KR ID#: KRLA-A-6388) and Amber (KR ID#: KRLA-A-6389), too!

Additional adoption info

We adopt animals to homes in the Los Angeles area and neighboring counties.

To help ensure that we place our cats in loving, responsible, committed homes, we have a screening process before you can adopt a pet from Kitten Rescue. We reserve the right to turn down potential adopters as we deem necessary. First, we ask that you complete our Adoption Questionnaire at kittenrescue.org/cat-adoption-form/. You can complete the form online or you may stop by a weekly adoption event to complete form in person. Second, a home visit or a home delivery of the cat or kitten is also required as part of our adoption process.

The Kitten Rescue adoption fee is $150 for a kitten or cat up to 10 years old, and $100 for each additional kitten or cat to the same household ($250 if you adopt a pair). Cats above 10 years old have a fee reduction of 50%, for an adoption fee of $75 each.

All of our cats have already been:
Spayed or neutered
Vaccinated – with at least one FVRCP vaccination
Treated for fleas
Dewormed
Tested for FeLV (Feline Leukemia) and FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus)
Microchipped

More about this rescue

Kitten Rescue is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization devoted to finding loving homes for unwanted, homeless cats and kittens. We rescue cats and kittens from the streets of Los Angeles and from City Shelter euthanasia. Since our start in 1997, we have grown into one of the largest, most well-respected animal welfare groups in LA.

Kitten Rescue volunteers adopt out over 2,000 cats and kittens into homes every year. We educate the public about responsible pet guardianship, how to care for kittens and cats, and the importance of spaying and neutering. Kitten Rescue makes educational material available via events, print, school presentations and here on our website. We also provide Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) assistance for communities in and around Los Angeles, and teach people how to manage and care for feral cat colonies.
