My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Rio – The Resilient Orange Tabby!

Rio’s journey is nothing short of inspirational. Rescued as a kitten after battling anemia and a prolonged illness that left him extremely underweight, this brave boy has shown incredible strength and determination. After an extended hospital stay, Rio is now coming out of his shell and embracing life with open paws.

Today, Rio is a loving and gentle soul who lights up any room. The moment you start petting him, he bursts into a purr—a sure sign of his newfound joy and gratitude. He enjoys interactive cat toys, playtime with his siblings, and every bit of attention that shows him he’s finally safe and loved.

Ideal Home:

A caring family that understands his journey and cherishes his gentle nature
A playful environment filled with interactive toys and lots of cuddles
A home where he can continue to build confidence and enjoy the little joys of life
Rio is a very social kitten, and would love to be adopted with one or more of his foster siblings, or into a home where there are other friendly playmates.

Rio’s resilience and loving spirit make him the perfect companion for anyone seeking a cat with a heart full of gratitude and a playful spark. Could your home be the next chapter in his remarkable recovery story?

Additional adoption info

We adopt animals to homes in the Los Angeles area and neighboring counties.

To help ensure that we place our cats in loving, responsible, committed homes, we have a screening process before you can adopt a pet from Kitten Rescue. We reserve the right to turn down potential adopters as we deem necessary. First, we ask that you complete our Adoption Questionnaire at kittenrescue.org/cat-adoption-form/. You can complete the form online or you may stop by a weekly adoption event to complete form in person. Second, a home visit or a home delivery of the cat or kitten is also required as part of our adoption process.

The Kitten Rescue adoption fee is $150 for a kitten or cat up to 10 years old, and $100 for each additional kitten or cat to the same household ($250 if you adopt a pair). Cats above 10 years old have a fee reduction of 50%, for an adoption fee of $75 each.

All of our cats have already been:
Spayed or neutered
Vaccinated – with at least one FVRCP vaccination
Treated for fleas
Dewormed
Tested for FeLV (Feline Leukemia) and FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus)
Microchipped

More about this rescue

Kitten Rescue is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization devoted to finding loving homes for unwanted, homeless cats and kittens. We rescue cats and kittens from the streets of Los Angeles and from City Shelter euthanasia. Since our start in 1997, we have grown into one of the largest, most well-respected animal welfare groups in LA.

Kitten Rescue volunteers adopt out over 2,000 cats and kittens into homes every year. We educate the public about responsible pet guardianship, how to care for kittens and cats, and the importance of spaying and neutering. Kitten Rescue makes educational material available via events, print, school presentations and here on our website. We also provide Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) assistance for communities in and around Los Angeles, and teach people how to manage and care for feral cat colonies.
