Homer is a 3-year-old male pit bull, weighing about 55 lbs, who came into the shelter on April 16. He was found in a garage with blankets, food, and water, suggesting that someone had been caring for him there. Despite the uncertainty of his past, Homer has remained a sweet and resilient boy.
The shelter environment makes him anxious, but once he’s away from the noise and stress, his true personality shines. Homer is playful, affectionate, and walks beautifully on leash. He loves attention, and his gentle nature makes him a great candidate for a family home—he’d do especially well with kids.
Homer is ready to leave the stress of shelter life behind and start his new chapter with a family who will give him the stability and love he deserves.

We prefer to schedule appointments for meet-and-greets to ensure that staff or volunteers are available to spend adequate time helping you/

Meet the Pet

For safety reasons, please do not reach into kennels or attempt to touch animals through barriers. If you’re interested in a particular pet.

Submit Application

After your visit, you’re welcome to submit an adoption application.

4.
Approve Application

After the application is submitted, we will review it and contact you if your application is chosen.

5.
Take the Pet Home

Once your application is approved, we will contact you to finalize the adoption process!

We are located at 1600 Johnson Road in Petersburg, Virginia.
Our hours of operation are Monday - Friday 10am till 3pm.
We are closed Saturdays and Sundays (as well as holidays) but are available by appointment outside of our open hours.
