My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

At 10 years old, Martha has mastered two things: delivering the world’s most legendary stink-eye… and loving with her whole heart. Sure, her face says “I’m not mad, just disappointed,” but don’t be fooled—Martha is a certified cuddle queen who’s just waiting for the right person to scratch behind her ears and tell her she’s pretty.

This Boxer/Pit mix has lived a tough life—found wandering the streets with a massive growth on her chest and a body that’s weathered more than its share. But despite everything, her spirit is intact, her eyes still shine with hope, and her heart is wide open.

Martha is dog-friendly with proper introductions and prefers calm over chaos (don’t we all?). She’s got the wisdom of age, the soul of a survivor, and the lounging skills of a professional napper. And yes, her mini-me Miriam—believed to be her daughter—is also with us and just as sweet. Adopt both and you’ll be the proud owner of the most iconic mother-daughter duo since Lorelai and Rory. 💁‍♀️🐾

Martha is ready to hang up her crown of survival and claim her throne on a soft couch, in a quiet home, with someone who gets her. Someone who sees past the grump face and into the golden heart underneath.

Meet the Pet

Potential adopter(s) will meet the dog. At this time there will also be a meet and greet between any other pets included in the household.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process consists of an initial application for the animal of interest, followed by reference checks (both personal and with a veterinarian), a home visit, and finally if approved an adoption contract. All animals are required to be inside companion pets and the owner must maintain veterinary care throughout the life of the animal.

Adoption fees are $150 for dogs, unless it is fostered through us for another rescue and $75 for cats.

All animals are up to date with vaccinations and spayed/neutered before adoption.

Go meet their pets

Arrangements can be made to visit with any of our pets, but because we are foster based and do not have one facility, appointments must be made to do so. To visit with a pet, please contact us at 814-421-7078 by phone or text.

More about this rescue

We are a small foster based rescue, not a shelter, comprised of multiple individuals that open their homes to stray, sick, and forgotten animals in need. We began the rescue in the Ligonier Area to focus on issues of stray, abandoned, and neglected animals. We often took in animals for the local police departments instead of having them sent to animal control. We have since expanded and try to cooperate with the public, other rescues, and other animal groups to assist any animal in need. Our primary focus area for intake though is still the Ligonier Valley. Adoptions can be made to any area as long as the adoption process is completed.
