My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Uzu | Apply to Adopt Me

Uzu (, pronounced Woo-joo), means “universe” in Korean — a fitting name for a dog with so much depth, heart, and untapped potential. Uzu was rescued in December 2023 from a dog meat farm where he was destined for slaughter. Our team in Korea stepped in just in time, giving him the chance to live the kind of life every dog deserves. Since then, he’s been on a journey of healing and growth. After months of rehabilitation at our center, he traveled to NYC and is now being fostered in Brooklyn, where he’s made incredible progress. At 3 years old and 80 lbs, Uzu is a stunning Korean Mastiff with a gentle spirit and some shy tendencies. He’s still learning to trust the world around him, but once he feels safe, his true personality starts to shine. He has a curious, adventurous side and absolutely lives for his walks — prancing with his big boy paws, sniffing everything in sight, and enjoying every moment. Inside the home, he’s slowly gaining confidence, showing signs of playfulness with little zoomies and playful bows that melt your heart. Uzu gets along well with other dogs and would do best in an adult-only home with an active lifestyle. He’d thrive with a patient, warm-hearted family who understands his sensitivities and can give him the space and support to keep building confidence. He’s also very food motivated (especially if bananas or sweet potatoes are involved!) and is happiest when there’s a treat in hand and someone patient by his side. If you’re ready to give a second chance to a dog who’s already come so far — and still has so much love to give — Uzu might just be your universe. Currently fostered in Brooklyn, NY and available for adoption through Korean K9 Rescue.

More about this rescue

Korean K9 Rescue is a volunteer-driven No-Kill dog rescue organization based in Queens, New York and Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, South Korea As a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization, we transport homeless and mistreated dogs from South Korea and place them with loving forever families, primarily in New York City, Boston, and Los Angeles. Because of an unfortunate stigma surrounding mixed-breed dogs–and the dog meat trade that persists within the country–many dogs in South Korea are unlikely to be adopted at home and are in grave danger of being euthanized.

We believe that all dogs should be happy and free. With our partners in Korea, we are stepping in to help at-risk dogs live healthy, happy, long lives. Please join us in our mission!
