My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🐾 Meet Charlie (a.k.a. Hopper)

* A magnificent, soulful German Shepherd with a serious exterior and a secretly playful heart.
* Currently in training at The Happy Gentle Dog in Dallas since March 2025—one of the nation's top positive reinforcement programs.

🧠 Smart, Focused & Eager to Learn

* Charlie is a brilliant student and thrives on structure, mental stimulation, and active engagement.
* He’s deeply loyal, emotionally attuned, and craves a close bond with his person—he’ll be your “Robin” if you’re his Batman.

🏡 Ideal Home

* Needs an experienced owner familiar with the German Shepherd breed and structured dog training.
* Best suited for a calm, consistent household—ideal for a couple or individual without young kids.
* Can live with one compatible dog; unknown with cats. A securely fenced yard is a must due to medium flight risk.

💬 Trainer’s Insight

* Charlie is intense, driven, and a bit of a “Type A” personality—he loves rules and routines!
* His past included a minor fear bite (before training), but he has shown no bite behavior at HGD. His growth has been extraordinary.

📚 What Charlie Needs From You

* Embrace his natural herding instincts and channel them constructively.
* Provide continuous training, boundaries, and structured affection—he learns quickly and gives his all.
* Welcome his intensity—it’s part of his brilliance and charm.

🌟 Why He’s Worth It

* Charlie has the potential to be an incredibly loyal, loving, and dependable companion.
* With patience, consistency, and the right leadership, he will blossom into a confident, joyful member of your family.

More about this shelter

Hello! Thanks for checking us out. We are a 501-c3 non profit rescue and rehab service in Tucson, AZ

We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs from the streets of Mexico in cooperation with other animal rescue organizations in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Our shelter in Hermosillo, Sonora, Vidas Con Causa, currently has over 150 dogs. There, we provide medical care and a loving place for them to heal before coming to the US, then we foster and work on finding the perfect fit for adoption. You can also visit the available dogs at the rescue in Mexico. Our rescue partners spend a lot of time getting to know the dogs and we know MOST of their
perks and quirks!

We help special needs dogs, the amputees, the pregnant Pitties, the MexiMutts, those from small independent shelters who don't get much notice, the cancer patients. We provide round-the-clock care until these dogs are ready for rehoming.
