My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🌟🐾 HI, I’M JACK… AND I THINK I’M READY FOR MY FOREVER FAMILY! 🐾🌟
(…yes, I wrote this myself. I’m a very talented shepherd mix. 😌)

Hey friends! I’m Jack — a 3-year-old, 40-ish lb shepherd mix with a shiny coat, a squishy heart, and a goofy streak that pops out at least 12 times a day. I used to be shy, scared, and overwhelmed… but with love, patience, and lots of snacks, I’ve blossomed into a silly, snuggly, sweet boy who’s soooo ready for a home of my very own. 💛

✨ **A LITTLE ABOUT ME** ✨
🐶 Dog-friendly — I *love* other dogs my size and I’m very curious about the small ones.
💛 Grade-A Snuggle Bug — Head pets? Belly rubs? Yes please, always.
🚽 House-trained — Not one single accident. Your rugs are safe with me.
🦮 Leash learner — I walk beautifully… unless there’s a bunny. Or a deer. Then I briefly forget my manners.
📦 Crate Progress Champ — I used to shake at the sight of a crate, and now I walk in by myself and relax for 30–40 minutes. Huge win!
🛋 Boundaries? Learning them! — I now wait to be invited on furniture and I’m practicing “place” and “go to your room.”
☀️ Outdoor Lover — Sunshine, grass, rolling, sniffing, repeat.
🧼 Grooming — Brushing = spa day. Bathing = betrayal. Touching my back paws = absolutely not, thank you.

🍽 **MY FAVORITE SNACKS** 🍽
YES: cheese, peanut butter, sardines, eggs, blueberries, pumpkin, bacon/pork treats, freeze-dried minnows
NO THANK YOU: carrots, celery, strawberries, apples (crunchy water? pass.)

🎾 **TOYS & ACTIVITIES**
Tossing toys, enrichment puzzles, lick mats, Kongs, long walks (1–3 miles!), sniffing everything, sunbathing, snuggling, supervising your chores, and helping you with whatever you’re doing whether you want help or not.

🤣 **ADORABLE JACK-ISMS**
• I’m clumsy in a charming way. Grace is optional.
• I try to be gentle but I forget my size and sometimes turn into a flopping noodle.
• Closed doors? Baby gates? Suggestions.
• I occasionally steal shoes or knock a pillow off the couch for dramatic effect.
• Stairs? Hard pass (for now). We can train together if you insist.

🧠 **TRAINING UPDATE**
I know: good, no, drop it, leave it, down/off
Learning: sit, stay, shake, place, & longer calm crate time
Separation anxiety: improving! I’m practicing with shoes, keys, door sounds, and I recover quickly after a few minutes.

🏡 **MY DREAM HOME**
• A dog sibling would make me so happy
• Active humans who love walks, adventures, and sunshine
• A patient home who will help me keep building confidence
• A yard = pure joy
• Fewer stairs is ideal (but I’ll try for you!)
• Someone who wants a loyal shadow, cuddle buddy, and goofy adventure partner

🌞 **A DAY IN MY LIFE**
Wake up → morning walk → breakfast → backyard zooms → nap while foster parent works → another walk → sunbathing → enrichment → dinner → cuddles → bedtime. Structure makes me flourish. Routine makes me brave.

💛 **MY JOURNEY SO FAR**
I came timid and worried, but now I hop into cars, greet dogs gently, nap peacefully, explore new spaces, and even choose to chill in another room like a confident boy. I’ve grown so much — and I’m ready for my forever person or family to help me keep shining. ✨

📍 **I’m in Colorado and available through Paws Without Borders.**
If you think we might be a match… please apply! I promise to love you with my whole heart.

More about this shelter

Hello! Thanks for checking us out. We are a 501-c3 non profit rescue and rehab service in Tucson, AZ

We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs from the streets of Mexico in cooperation with other animal rescue organizations in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Our shelter in Hermosillo, Sonora, Vidas Con Causa, currently has over 150 dogs. There, we provide medical care and a loving place for them to heal before coming to the US, then we foster and work on finding the perfect fit for adoption. You can also visit the available dogs at the rescue in Mexico. Our rescue partners spend a lot of time getting to know the dogs and we know MOST of their
perks and quirks!

We help special needs dogs, the amputees, the pregnant Pitties, the MexiMutts, those from small independent shelters who don't get much notice, the cancer patients. We provide round-the-clock care until these dogs are ready for rehoming.
