My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

RIVIAN hails from Constance Lake and headed south to find her forever family. She’s spayed, vaccinated including rabies, microchipped and has been deemed a healthy girl by her vet. She was found all alone with no other family around so the breeds we have her listed as and the weight she’ll grow to be is just an educated guess. This super sweet young lady enjoys being is very social and loves to be around people as well as other dogs but she’s now decided she’s not a fan of female dogs. So we’re now saying that if there’s a dog in the home it should be a male one. She knows all the basic commands and sits nicely for her meals plus will take treats “gentle.”

RIVIAN is house trained and she knows to take her bathroom breaks outside and when she’s on her walks. She’s crate trained and the odd time will complain when she goes in but she does settle down quickly and then will sleep quietly in it all night. She’ll also take her naps in it during the day and she often goes on car rides (which she loves) and is crated in the vehicle. She has lots of toys she plays with and is quite happy when she has a bone to chew on or even avow hoof. She’s very social and has several dogs in her foster home and she really enjoys chasing them and playing in the yard. It should be noted that she was recently adopted but then returned to the rescue due to an interaction with a cat in the home even though she was fostered with a cat with no problems at all so we’re saying 100% no cats or small critters in the home. Once she was returned to rescue our wonderful puppy trainer said she would take her to foster. She’s doing great with her and is becoming used to a structured routine. The trainer has noticed that she can be bossy so a dog savvy adopter for her is a must. She also has some tendencies to resource guard but nothing crazy that she can’t be trained out of. She also mentioned she has a lack of impulse control and that’s being worked on with the trainer too. She has been around children and they all love her but if there’s any in the home we are saying they should be aged 12 and up as per her foster/trainer put it “is a bit of a brute with her plays and cuddles so no kids under 12. Is super loving. Loves her big yard!” Any children should be very dog savvy and be loving, kind and gentle to animals.

RIVIAN’s ideal family (besides being very dog savvy) would also be a very active outdoorsy type who’ll take her on lots of walks and hikes in the woods. She travels well in a vehicle so she’d love to go where you go and that includes adventures, camping and trips to the lake as she loves to go swimming. She will need a family that’s committed to continue her obedience training to make sure she’s the best girl possible. This of course can be continued with our trainer but you can take her to your own trainer to continue it if preferred. It’s also a great way for her new adopter to form a bond with her. A fully fenced-in yard is required for her so she can run around and play to burn off some of that “Rivian” energy.

If RIVIAN sounds like the perfect girl for your active home then please submit an adoption application to meet her.

Additional adoption info

Dogs: $750 (as of March 2024)
Cats: $250
The adoption process involves a brief application for the pet you are interested in. We will review your application and if you appear to be a good match for the pet, we will contact you for a phone interview. If that is successful we then do a vet reference check. If all goes well we will then set up a meet and greet for you and anyone else living in the home including any resident dogs with the pet. We then ask you to go home and contemplate your decision on adopting the pet and let us know your decision within 24hrs of meeting the pet. If applicable we will then move forward with the adoption at a mutually agreed upon time.

Go meet their pets

We only set up meet and greets with our animals once an adoption application has been submitted. We do occasionally have meet and greets with our animals at Global Pet Foods in the Barrie area.

You can check out the available pets on our rescuegroups website or on our rescue Facebook page.

More about this rescue

We’re a small rescue with a big mission to save animals in our Northern communities, local Pounds and owner surrenders (under certain circumstances.) We’re located in Barrie, Ontario and we serve the area of Simcoe County and within a two hour radius of the Barrie area.
Our intakes are placed in loving foster homes until they’re assessed, vetted including vaccines, microchip and a spay/neuter (if over 6 months of age) before they leave the rescue to be adopted. Female puppies are spayed at 6 months of age and males 8 months of age.)
We’re always looking for additional foster homes as we can only do intakes if we have foster homes for them to go into.
