Gumbo is a 1-year-old Labrador mix who was found as a stray in O’Fallon on 5/21/25. This sweet, outgoing boy is full of life and ready to find a family to share his zest with!
Gumbo is friendly, affectionate, and very people-oriented. During his behavior evaluation, he greeted staff with tail wags and a happy, energetic bounce. He showed lots of engagement and was more interested in interacting with his handler than playing with toys—though he’ll definitely grab your attention with his goofy charm.
He did great during his food test, showing no signs of resource guarding. He ate calmly and was completely relaxed when staff approached or touched him during mealtime.
Gumbo does get anxious in his kennel and can be a bit overstimulated, especially during storms or chaotic shelter moments. Once out, his energy is happy and upbeat—he just needs a little help channeling it.
Dog Meet Note: When meeting other dogs, Gumbo can be very forward and a bit rude—he tends to rush in with excitement and doesn’t always read other dogs’ cues well. He would do best with a confident, tolerant dog who can match his high energy and help him learn appropriate social skills.
Gumbo is still learning how to navigate the world, but with structure, patience, and positive reinforcement, he’ll make an incredibly loyal and loving companion.
